Not shifting into reverse or park

Two weekends ago when it was around 10 degrees out I couldn't get my transmission to shift into reverse or park. So I drove back into town, about 8 miles, then I could shift into reverse but still not park. After driving it another 8 miles I could shift into park just fine. This hasn't happened again but I was wondering if it could be from low transmission fluid or something. So I checked the manual and it doesn't say anything about checking the transmission fluid.

Any ideas what the problem is???

Thanks

I checked the transmission fluid with the engine in neutral and running and it read where it should be if I were checking it cold. at least that is what I assume what the cold and hot mean on the dip stick.

I own a 1998 4Runner and have experienced the same problem after a wet snow. The next day the weather warmed up and problem was gone. I'm having my mecahin check the transmission today
