Conversely, it is not always reckless driving if you are going 55 in a 35.....it doesn't kick in until 60 mph. WTF? 60 in a 40 can be reckless driving, and so can 45 mph in a 25 zone; but not 55 in a 35 zone.
There are a lot of ways that "reckless driving" can be charged in this state, so be careful if you drive through VA.

How can you define "unsafe" speed? What factor do you take into account in making that determination? Do you consider the operator's experience (professional driver vs 17 year old that just got licensed), condition of the tires, overall condition of the vehicle, traffic conditions, weather, time of the day, etc?..
Do these tickets actually stand in court??? I think any lawyer should be able to pick it apart rather easily.

you can use any reasonable factors at officers discretion. so in rear end accidents we write the at fault party for unsafe speed because the safe speed to be moving at the time of the rear end accident should be zero or what is safe for the conditions. and that almost goes for any vehicle related crash or just a ticket for speeding it is a cover all type of section. but there is always letter and spirt of the law.

Yes tires make a big difference, in addition to my 4runner I have a slightly lifted Tundra (2" front, 1" rear), this allows me 285/75/16 tires which is 2 sizes up from stock. Based on GPS (and a nice ticket) I know that if I am showing 60 on the speedo I am actually going 66, I would assume that you were probably about 8-9 MPH faster than what showed. It

I think comparing a Tundra with 285s vs a 4Runner with just slightly 1" taller 265s isn't the same.
I did mine by making a couple of passes by a side of the road radar and my indicated 60mph was actually 62 every time and there's no way a 3% taller tire is going to register 6-9mph,that's way too much.

Whenever I see people going ridiculously fast like that, I find it to be sad in a way. I suppose the speeders think that whatever it is they are late for is more important than the safety of their fellow drivers. Who cares if you're 5 minutes to work? I've seen some pretty bad accidents because people thought the rules did not apply to them, and that it was acceptable to speed.
I've never been cited for a speeding ticket, nor do I think I ever will be. Going 15 or 20 over the speed limit is just an incredibly stupid thing to do.
I've gotta admit, I do enjoy it when some idiot flies past me --- only to see them pulled over by a CHP about a mile down the road.

I simply think most people should drive with the flow of traffic even if the flow is speeding a little since you are more of an issue going 10mph slower than the flow instead a little over the posted speed limit.
Colorado has a law that allows cops to ticket slower drivers in the left hand lanes on the highways.

If I want to take the risk of speeding and getting a ticket that is my right. It is as dangerous for you to slow traffic down than the fact that I am speeding

It is a law in most states that "slower traffic should keep to the right" -- but such laws go largely unenforced. The left-lane bandits and idiots who don't use directional signals are some of the most egregious offenders of traffic ettiquette.
