I'm still down for the 16th and maybe the 23rd. I'm also in the 757 area, if anyone wants to caravan up there, let me know.

Is there anything I need to bring besides some snacks and drinks? Since we'll be airing down, should I go ahead and invest in an air compressor or some other off road gear?

Hey all, I am very much a beginner to off-roading, but it is something that looks awesome to me. Watching 4runners off-road on Youtube isn't cutting it anymore. I would love to get out there and ride along if possible to learn more about off-roading and see what it is like first hand to help in the search for another and where I would want to take it build wise.
I am a semi-pro photographer on the side of my 9-5 and could take pictures/video of everyone along the run!
Count me in for the 16th and/or the 23rd if a shotgun seat(s) is available!

You're welcome to ride along with me... but if you do, be warned- the only thing you will learn from me is what not to do since I'm a total noob.
I'm bringing along my camera and lenses (an old Nikon D80, a 35mm prime, 50mm prime, 18-270 telephoto, and an 11-18 wide angle...) so if you ride with me, I'm gonna make you use it and take some pics. Consider yourself warned

Hey guys. I'm from the Virginia beach area, and just now starting to get active with the forum. I have an all stock 15 4Runner trail edition that I'm gonna be doing a small lift and some 285's within the next month or so. I'm not gonna make it to this event but I want to get active and attend some in the future for sure!

Looks like I'll be out for the 16th, wasn't sure of my schedule before, but moving into a new place this weekend.
But, definitely down to go in the future, maybe the 23rd, but might be tough to explore with you if I don't have my own truck. Hopefully by the Spring I will have found one and can join you guys properly.
As for photography...I think I'll stick with my own kit (5D III + 5D II, 70-200L 2.8 IS, 24-70L, 135L, 35L) and upload pics in a gallery for you all to download/share as you please.

I started the original Flagpole run in August
Its all good I just know the last 3 times we have went "up" on union mills to flagpole and "down" on briary branch. When I originally suggested running in reverse was to go up Briary Branch and down Union mills, Sorry if I caused any confusion!
I really don't care which way we go. If all of you guys want to change it up that is fine by me. We just need to come to an agreement. If anybody has an opinion on the matter, please respond by Friday.
This is very true. Again, I'm fine either way. I just want to get a plan together so we aren't all scratching our heads at the meeting point trying to figure out what is going on.

Bummed I am missing you dudes on this trip but I am headed to SHOT show in Vegas, leaving Sunday morning at 5:30 am, for work. Timing is just bad and I've got two weeks of travel lined up in a row. Have fun, stay safe and I will see you on the next one. Cool to see lots of new folks lining up!

Hah! Well, thankfully they don't need much, this is my old 100 (2006)
BIOR bumpers/skids/sliders, and a set of duratracs and it was good to go.

Honestly, that is all MOST capable 4WD vehicles need... until we get on this forum or go offroading with our buddies (cough, cough) and see all their cool new toys. Looking forward to seeing the 100 series. I've got a buddy with an 80 series, but he's busy until the spring so he won't be able to join us. I just love LandCruisers, but I don't NEED a giant vehicle so I drive a 4Runner.
SHOT show is gonna be sweet! Have fun and we'll see you at the next run.

After some consideration, I have decided that we will stick to the plan in the OP and go "up" Union Springs and "down" Briery Branch. Some good points were made about incline and decline and riding your brakes the whole way down the mountain really sucks. Also, because there are a good number of guys new to offroading I think that safety should be a big consideration as well. I believe navigating the incline will be safer than fighting gravity on the decline. I'm hoping to do some exploring on the 26th and if we want to "change things up" next time we should just run a different trail.

Expect the trail run to take 4-5 hours
We will plan to do the FlagPole Run. We will enter Union Springs Rd from here: 38°28'13.6"N 79°03'27.2"W and we will exit here: 38°28'55.4"N 79°13'15.3"W
Guys, please do not be late. If you run into unexpected traffic or delays, we all understand. But please plan to be at the meeting point by no later than 11:00 AM. The plan is to be pulling out of the Shell at or before 11:15 AM. I'm hoping that the 15 minutes will allow any stragglers some additional buffer. I know many of you are driving from the 757 area so we all need to get back home at the end of the day. This is a 4-5 hour trail so please be considerate of other people's time. Thank you!

I wholeheartedly agree bear, that works for me. Safety is top priority.
For those who care I will be having breakfast with my wife, brother and his GF at the Cracker Barrel at 9:30-9:45 which will give us enough time to get to the Shell. If you want to have breakfast there that is where we will be.
