Now I am REALLY wondering about my V8

Couple videos to hear noise levels and also to show how it shifts at different speeds. at 40 it kicks into 2nd not 1st, still tons of power. In all the take-offs I was punching it.

Here's sound levels driving normal with rear window down 3 inches and up all the way and also punching it.

One thing to point out here, I have stock gears and 35" tires. I have over 300 lbs of tools in the back of my truck, and I weigh in at 300 myself! My tires and wheels weigh 108 lbs a PIECE! That's 70 lbs over stock! O.o Once I get new gears she'll really rip!  :thumb:

The DBW logic on these things is tuned to smooth out the average person's horrid throttle control. Basically it's got quite a lot of filtering to it, and it damps out movements a great deal.

What does this mean? Slow downshifts (lots of filtering and damping on output), and generally sluggish responses when changing throttle position, as the throttle just isn't being commanded anywhere near what your foot is putting in there.

Different people have differing sensitivities to this, and I've noticed that people who don't have much experience on throttle cable cars thinking this is the "norm."

Also, I'd like to berate the engineer who came up with the shift point logic. There's a huge screw up when you're at 20-40% throttle and the car goes into 4th very early like 28-32 mph. I just have a V6, but it causes a huge torque hole as you drop way out of the powerband in the next gear.

Ideally it should maintain a roughly consistent "stair step" of drivewheel torque as you shift up through the gears. This shift is like a freakin' cliff where you are borderline on even maintaining that speed at that RPM and gear. So typically it'll kick into 4th if I'm in that throttle range, then I have to give it another 10-20% throttle until it'll kick down into 3rd, accelerate up to the mid-high 30's mph range, then go into 4th and have more than enough power to pull out.

The non-VVTi V8 I drove felt the exact same, where it just didn't have enough OOMPH at that throttle position and low revs to pull cleanly on the early upshift.

this is what you do. MAF sensor, fuel filter/pump, spark wires/plugs, trans. fluid, diff. fluid, check throttle cable tension, brake cable tension(might me to tight), clean throttle body, and tune to your desire. plus all cars should have the cat replaced or cleaned(only professionally-you don't wanna die) after a certain mileage for the performance aspect.

huh? its fly by wire and what brake cables? its not a bicycle

It is surprising to me how quiet that is when you are just cruising. It's definitely loud when you are on the gas but sounds awesome.

Ya I was surprised too. I've had a couple people follow me into the gas station just to see what I have going on. Cracks me up, and I REALLY love messing with the Chevy guys, they get all bent real quick. lol
