O Gasket Mod

I was not able to find a definate answer, so I'll throw it out here and see if you guru's knew about this "mod".

I printed the directions for cleaning the throttle body yesterday, doesn't seem too difficult. As I have never cleaned it since I've owned it, I was going to remove it to clean the back of the butterfly too.

I thought I read something (or my eyes were playing tricks on me and wasn't able to find again) about using a different gasket, an O gasket (from the dealer, correct?) instead of the stock gasket. Is this correct and is there any difference (performance or otherwise) when installed?

ya dude, im not sure if the dealership sells it but i know that rimpainter from yotatech sells them for $6 shipped. ask him about where to find the write-up bc i just did a quick glance and couldn't find it either.

It takes like 2 minutes to dremel the flat off the ID of the stainless steel gasket and you have an O-ring. Not only do you have an o-ring, but you have a stainless steel o-ring and not a paper o-ring.

Thanks guys!

xskydivingdudex, is his name rimpainter.com? I just did a quick search of names and that one came up...

what exactly is the difference between O and D gasket? i know the shape and all...but what is the function of both? there has to be a reason why ours came with the regular D right? why would they stick a D ring in there in the first place ?

It is really hard to say if changing the gasket has a real and noticeable effect. I did it in conjunction with a bunch of other maintenance and would suggest to do it only if you have the TB removed for other purposes.

Some more pics and stuff on this page.

I know umm supercharger on yotatech dide a dyno of this and it shows that he got a little better throttle response and i think it holds the gears a little better. I cant remember exactly bc its been so long since i read up on it...

I was readin down on the bottom of that article about the O gasket. Do you HAVE to have a supercharger to do this, or is this recommended for people who are running superchargers?

The people that see the most benefit from this are the ones with a supercharger. Most people who are not running one can't really notice a difference.
