Occasional motor noise coming from rear wheel well when powered off?

I have a 2013 4runner and for years I have noticed that sometimes when I go into the garage for something there is a motor or something making a sound from my 4runner while it has been powered off for several hours. The noise is not as noticeable from inside the vehicle, but you can hear it much more clearly when you put you ears next to the rear tires near gas tank. I have never had any battery issues from leaving it sitting for a few days, etc., but do you guys have any ideas of what that could be?

Normal - Fuel evaporation leak check. Page 8 of your owner's manual. There are several threads with this same question.

Yep, evap check. Just heard mine the other day.

Take your gas cap off while it’s running and see if it’s the same sound.
