hi, Im new here to this forum. I searched this forum but found nothing about Oceano Dunes, located in Central California. I'm planning to go there but wasn't sure if off-road tires are really needed. I have the most recent generation 4runner. 4wd SR5 V6

currently have regular road tires.. wonder if its enough.

try searching for pismo beach also. from what i've read, a/t tires do better than m/t tires on the sand because the a/ts dont dig into the sand. just air down a lot and you should be alright.

air down like there's no tomorrow (10-12). drive slow!
no donuts or else you'll pop a bead (meaning tire separates from rim - not good)
easy on the gas!
enjoy!
pix pix pix!
watch out for the salt water too - rust!

I have been going on the beach with the Dunlops and it has handled like a charm. As previously mentioned, I think the best tip is air-down. I go to about 11.

Stay away from the water and watch for spots that are cut off at high tide. If you first head out at dead low tide, your access may be much different come high tide. If you are going to a beach that you are not familiar with, head out at high tide.

Enjoy, it is my favorite thing to do with the 4runner.
