October Camping Trip #5- THE COVE!!!

Well Guys and Gals, it's time to get ready for the annual camping trip at The Cove! Can you believe this will be 5 years in a row?!

For those that have never been before, this trip is a great opportunity to meet some fellow forum enthusiasts, and the ability to take your 4Runner off the beaten path for a weekend of fun!

The Cove offers everything from gravel access roads to mud pits to hard core rock crawling!

You will enjoy rustic camping (no water or electricity at the campsight, only a spot-a-pot, picnic table and fire ring), fishing, shooting at a new improved range, exploring and awesome conversations at the campfire at night.

We are extremely fortunate that the great staff at The Cove opens their trail network up to us for this event! They have very specific rules that only allow trail riding for large events (we are not a large event for them), and we have earned their trust and approval.

It would be great to get a big crowd together this year!

* $25 per vehicle "Trail Use" fee.

* We will be in the same area as the last three years; Campsite#2- South of the access road.

* We have this entire area to ourselves this year- Will at The Cove has set it aside!






These are very basic campsites. No water, no electricity, no Cable tv. There are 10 picnic tables and rock fire-rings in camp.


Come camp out, relax and hit some trails.



THE COVE

The link above explains everything, but here are some details-


*Every road in The Cove is unpaved and either gravel or dirt. .

*There are easy/intermediate trails to drive on or hike/Mt Bike.

*There are trails that a rock crawling buggy would have difficulty with.

*There are ATV trails

*Lots of lakes to kayak, canoe, fish, etc. Fishing with Bass, Walleye, Pike, Crappie.

*Boats/Canoes can be rented at $10/hr, or bring your own @ $10/day. No gas motors on the lakes.

*They have an improved rifle range.

*Alcohol is welcome and pretty much mandatory.

* Our campsites have 2 porta-potties and the Bath House with hot water/toilets is within walking distance.

*It is beautiful and quiet here.

Just got the OK to go this time around. :banana:

I may not be staying through to Monday but hoping for at least Friday through to Saturday if not Sunday. I'll know more as the time gets closer. Or make a decision whenever you need a firm head count.

Don't have a tent or anything so hopefully sleeping in the back of the 4Runner is not frowned upon.

Let me know what to bring and how else to contribute!

Get yourself the Truck Bedz air mattress with wheel well cutouts... myself and my 6'2" hubby slept comfortably in the truck last fall. Just let a bit of air out of the mattress and close the hatch. Crawl in through one of the rear passenger doors. It's super cozy.

There is still some awesome video of someone maybe putting a slight bend in her new shrockworks bumper. Here's to maybe going next year.

Can't get away this year as my sister is getting married the week before in New York and using my leave for that (and its a 17 hour drive). Going to try and find a way to make it work next year!

I mentioned in the Cove 4 thread, if there is a way to do a Cove 5.5 trip I might be able to make it next Spring break (hint hint) when I'll likely be up visiting family in Maryland again. And yes I am the only idiot who reverse commutes from Florida for Winter and Spring break...LOL!
