OD button.. How do you take it off?

My Automatic shift lever is verrrry loose and I'm trying to take off the shifter console to take a look to see where the trouble is.

Well I've figured out how to take everthing off, however the OD button which I can take out of the handle has a hardwire wire that runs from it down under the floor.

So my question is do I have to cut the wire ad then repair when I put the shifter back or is there another way?

Hoping someone on the forum knows what I'm talking about, and can advise!!

Good luck with this. I Just did a complete interior swap on my 86. I ended up just cutting the wire and splicing it back together. You can take the button apart but there is a spring inside not much bigger than the end of a pen. This spring helps the button lock in and out. If you loose it, you will be stuck in drive. No fun. trust me

Will post after pics soon
