Odd electrical problem

Ok, so about a week ago I was driving home from work and my night time dash light and shift gear lights didn't turn on with my headlights. I checked the fusebox under the steering wheel, there is a 10amp fuse labeled GAUGES and it was fine. Yesterday I installed a 10" sub in the back of my car, so when I was running the remote wire I tried to find loose connections or SOMETHING to explain my problem, with no success.
Now, since there was no loose connections on that part of the dash, maybe there is something behind where the gauges are themselves. Maybe the light died and it broke the connection to the lights in the shifter like a fuse. However, I have no idea how to get back there! Anyone else have this problem?

Fixed the problem, swapped out the night time dimmer switch thing with a "new" one from the junkyard. Not sure why it stopped working in the first place, though
