Odd Question I havn't Seen Asked: Catalytic Converter placement...

Don't suppose anybody else has a 2nd gen or 3rd gen SR5 (Pre-Runner) that the converter is placed vertically instead of horizontally??

Seem counterintuitive, and puts it in harms way, IMHO. I'll probably have the muffler shop cut it at the flanges and fix it, I'm just curious if there was some logic at work here, or someone was asleep at the factory.

Looks like somebody stole the original one and since they are a high as shit in the price, they probably got an after market cheap-o, especially if they were just gonna sell it. That def doesn't look like stock at all either, and I've seen the underbodys of some 2nd and 3rd gens.

Poossibly replaced if part was stolen...

..not sure if it's aftermarket though, but definitely a possibility.

I can't reach the original owner, as I'd bought it through a local dealer who got it from the factory dealership, when it was turned in trade. I'm lucky I know as much as I do about it, all the vehicle is clean, included all the OE paperwork, and from my inspection, only a small bit of bodywork on the right front fender, really done well, so well, even I almost missed it.

If it has been replaced, it might be from a Camry or Corolla though, I think they mount like that, I'll have to look into it when I have a bit of time.

At least it smogs and passes, right.
