Yesterday, I noticed on my 1995 4Runner that the Speedometer, Odometer, and other front guages are not operating. I called my mechanic and they told me they would have to run a $70 diagnostic test, and then hopefully diagnose the problem. They told me it most likely has to do with the wiring. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I found it especially odd that the overall mileage guage is not operating. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks!

Agreed. I would check the fuses first. Very unlikely but could some of the connections going into the back of the gauge cluster have come lose?

I know this is ancient history, but I'm trying to diagnose the instrument panel not working: where does the panel ground?
Edit: Update: I replaced the Ignition fuse (which wasn't blown), but it fixed the majority of the issues. I'll go in and replace the rest of the old fuses since it's cheap insurance.

On the 98 I had, a fuse connection went bad when I stopped to take a call. When I eventually figured it out, the fuse was good, and removing it and putting it back in was all it took. And 4-6 hours to get to that point.
On my 92 the speedometer is having issues when "cold". Sounds like it is the Vehicle Speed Sensor. Maybe a removal and cleaning will be all it takes, but there are replacements on Amazon and Rock Auto. But my odometer is working even when the speed is shown at 0, and I think the lights are all working on the instrument panel, so my problem is a little different. Still, not a bad idea to pull and reinsert fuses once in a while, especially in wet or humid areas.

I did that as well and even pulled the old fuses and just replaced them with brand new ones. I'll chase it down at some point: there are other things to worry about. At least on the outside of the car the turn signals and brake lights work.

Having the same issue if anyone can share some links to parts. I have a 95 4runner running diesel and the speedometer struggles to rise.
