OEM 4th. Gen. Subwoofer Question

I gotta 2003 and 2008, both WITHOUT the JBL stereo systems.

Does anyone know if i can install one of the OEM subwoofers in the back-passenger area? Is there already wiring there when the trucks were assembled?

eh, the amp most likely won't be there, and a wire comes straight from the amp that goes to the sub...it would probably be a pain in the butt. I would do something like what I did, get the OEM sub box, but put your own sub and amp back there.

I hear you, but I was asking if the cables from the HU that ran back to that particular compartment were there, ready for the amp+woofer to be plugged in. I realize that there would be no amp already there, but the wiring that goes all the way back to that wheelwell-area is all im asking about.

I can find the amp+woofer combo, im sure. I just dont want to open up the interior and SURPRISE! IT AINT THERE! you know?

Wiring

I went down this road last year.Sorry to tell you,but no wiring.I found an entire JBL system and was going to install it in my 08.I would have had to buy the entire harness.I talked to 2 different dealer techs and a stereo shop,and got the same answer from all 3.I even did a little search on my truck and found out they were right.On the bright side,you can run wires from the front to the back pretty easy.I just put an Alpine premium hu and XM in my truck and i'm getting ready to drop in a sub and amp.The Alpine has the RCA preouts,so it should be easy.Let me know if you want to sell the factory sub enclosure.

Subwoofer

If I were to run the electrical back to the corner that would be easy. How do you get ahold of the factory setup to put in some subs? I like the factory look.

I have my own custom made sub. Honestly installinga sub isnt rocket science. But you would need a active amp to drive your sub. Here is what i have done.

1. Audio out (from player ) -> Sub Amp -> Subwoofer

You need to have a sub amp rated at atleast 200 watts RMS NO PMPO. Nowadays amps come with clipping level control so even if you blast full sound from your player, the amp would normalize it.

I suggest getting a Rockford Fosgate amp. I am using it and i love the deep base. For speakers use a 12 inch double coil sub. Mount it on a MDF enclosure. Make sure that you damp the box with fiberfill material.

Keep the enclosure air tight or else you will loose the bass.
