OEM Brake Pad Replacement Other Parts Needed?

Ordered some OEM Front and Rear Pads for my 5th Gen and was told they only come with the pads.

Do I need another parts to complete my OEM pad replacement?

They also come with new shims. The stainless part that causes the screeching noise when the pads wear down to a certain level.

Unless you have salt/rust you should be able to just reuse everything with no issues.

Now is a good time to replace the brake fluid in the reservoir. I usually use a turkey baster to suck out the old and replace with new. Do not touch the brake pedal during fluid replacement. I typically surround the master cylinder with paper towels to prevent dripping brake fluid onto paint. This will not completely flush the system.

It's still a Toyota pad but I call them the cheap pads here at work. They tend to squeak. It is Toyotas "value" pad

Yeah like SR5Bart said. They are still a Toyota part but cheaper alternatives with some negative reports out there. Not worth it IMO. Google the number and the pads even look cheap. Apparently it’s the “AZ” part numbers to be aware of.

I did not install the shims/wear indicators on my last brake change. No noises and everything works great. I hate those things. I inspect my brakes at every oil change, so I don't need no stinking indicator.. :lalala:

Ok so I think I should be good reusing a lot of the parts, springs and shims. Will do rotors on the 2nd brake pad change I am only on my 1st. 4R has never been in snow, water or mud so I should be good.

Yeah you don’t need most of that but I will say...I replaced the original pads at about 88,000 miles ( read that right) and only because one rotor warped while towing. They still had a lot of life on them.

The pins that are supposed to make a pad change quick and convenient were so badly rusted into place that it took me hours to get them tapped through and out. It was a disaster. So you may need new pins if you were like me. Sounds like you won’t though.

Yes. I take my pins and retainer clip/spring out every year or two and clean them up or replace them with aftermarket.

Smart. I will when rotating tires from this point forward. Great idea by Toyota that they ruined with making such a damn good truck that didn’t need brakes for 8 years.
