OEM Brakes comparison?

Need to buy some brakes. I always buy OEM and have used Part number 04465-35240 which are semi metallic pads.

But I also see that they have ceramic pads which is part number 04465-AZ005.

What I do like is that the ceramic pads are like half the price.

Anyone running the ceramic pads? If so do you like them more than the semi metallic and why?

I much prefer semi-metallic. Way more brake dust, which looks bad, but it is easily removed with water-soluble cleaners, like Bleche White.

The last time I bough ceramics, I swore that I would never do that again. Sure, they stop better, but that comes at a price, since the laws of physics cannot be cheated. They eat up rotors. And the brake dust, even though a lesser amount, is extremely difficult to remove. I have been out there many times with Brake Clean spray, or acetone, and a brass brush, just to get some of the ceramic brake dust off of my wheels. I'm sure my neighbors heard all about that.

Maybe ceramics have evolved into something better, that doesn't eat up rotors and practically weld brake dust to the wheels. But I doubt that. For the most part, they are (or at least were) a marketing gimmick.

Ceramic is all I'd ever consider. They simply work better at stopping and that is what it's all about, right?

To boot, less dust, I never even see any on my fronts!

Yet I don't do toyo oem, i like powerstop, lots more choices on the types of grip your're after, every one has pluses and minus', they have a graphical representation to make deciding easier....

I’m wondering if I should try the ceramic pads but still on the fence. Will have to keep doing some more research.

Maybe they have evolved into where the claims about dust are actually true. The several times I tried them on different vehicles, years ago right after they first came out, the claims about brake dust were flat out lies. Back then, there was the same amount or more dust, and that dust was extremely difficult to remove.

But the fact remains that if they stop better, with less or zero dust, then that means they are eating up your rotors faster. Physics cannot be defeated.

However, stopping better is the main point, as mentioned above.

Ive been running the Advics ceramic pads. my 1st set lasted 3.5 years with good wear and minimal dust. i had a sumitomo cermaic set before that and they were fairly stout aswell.
