OEM cassette tape player

I use a cassette adapter on my '02 to plumb my Sirius radio into the OEM stereo - has worked great for years and much better than the FM transmitter. Suddenly the cassette has malfunctioned - flips from side-to-side a few times then spits out the adapter. I tried getting a new adapter and it did the same thing. Any tricks to "fix" the cassette appreciated.

Try using a cassette cleaner. But honestly you can pick up and after marked stereo with an aux port for very little money

Yea, I'd just buy a single DIN stereo that has an AUX input. Some well-reviewed ones can be had for <$50. You'll gain better audio quality as well.

You could go with a hard wired FM modulator, but that requires pulling the unit out of the dash to get to the antenna plug, and if you're going to take it out you'd be crazy not to just replace it. There are tons of very good aftermarket units out there in the $100 range.

The tape player is known to seize up. When I bought mine, it did the same. I put a new head unit in.

If you deal with Sonic Electronix, and I do, they usually include the dash kit and the wiring harness with your purchase.

Pretty easy. Pop off center dash, unplug a few connectors, unscrew 4 screws, pull out. Done.

I've done it a few times, so I know what to expect, but I can have it out in less than 10 minutes. It all comes apart really easily.

Cleaning it is pretty EZ. Get a couple q-tips (they do sell longer ones at radio shack if ya' like) and dip in rubbing alcohol. Then carefully rub along the black rubber tape pinch roller. Do this several times in such a manner that you rotate the pinch roller and clean it all around. You may need to change q-tips are a bit, they'll come out black with magnetic dust. Luck! :cowboy:
