OEM Denso Nav Not Receiving GPS Signal

have an 06 four runner v8 sport edition with the oem nav. Has worked great until the last week. I went in to the "service section" to check for a signal (put car in accessory mode, hold info and turn the headlights on and off 3 times) checked the navigation section and no signal? any suggestions on next steps for troubleshooting?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You might have been in an area where you weren't getting a signal. Our navigation systems use both dead reckoning and satellite signals to pinpoint our location. At times, when the satellite signal is lost, it should still track the vehicle. BTW, it also uses the vehicle's speed sensor and I believe a gyroscope to help track when there's no satellite signal.

problem is is that it has not been getting a signal for days and in areas where there is no doubt it should and has in the past.

Well then it seems you do have a problem. The antenna for the system is under the dashboard, between the two HVAC vents. You might want to start with that.

FYI-- you don't need to go into the diagnostics to see if the system is receiving a satellite signal. You can tell by looking at the corner of the screen for the icon.

this may be out of my league.. may be bring it to the dealer to just have them confirm its the antenna. I saw that the GPS icon was not there but wanted to see if it was hidden or just not illuminating correctly. thanks for the help with this!

update: disconnected neg terminal from battery for 5 minutes. the system did a full re-boot and i now get a signal.
