Does anyone know which Denso model was original equipment for a 2005 4 Runner Limited wth JBL audio? I would like to put one in and see a model E 7006 and E 7001 on E-bay for good prices. Is this the correct model? Will newer models work, and is there any advantage to a newer model?

The newer units offer a lot more over the E7006 for example. The E7008 has a 4-disc changer built in, which also plays MP3, & WMA files. The E7006 doesn't. Also, the newer units have Bluetooth built in, and has a lot of phone functions which in my book, is a BIG selling point. The display & graphics are even better on the new ones.
Of course, with the new ones, they've made it so you can't use a lot of functions while the vehicle is in motion. The older units can be overridden to allow this.
Of course, the newer units will cost a bit more, even on Ebay, but I think it's worth it. If these features don't matter too much to you, you could probably get a great deal for the older 4th gen units on Ebay.

It can be done on the E7008 with the version 6 disc. I think it was version 7 when the override feature was removed. (I might have the version numbers wrong, but the map disc that shipped with 2006 E7008 can be overrided.) The alternative would be to create a hybrid disc, so the old "loading.kwi" file is there which allows the override and the newer/updated map software.

Sorry for bring back a old thread from the grave but does anyone know if my 03 limited oem jbl navi can replaced with like a newer e7007 model and such that support mp3 discs like from newer 4runners etc?

With JBL, yes. It's practically plug n play. I have an 05 limited with a E7009 unit (apparently from a 2009 Sienna). Only thing is that I can't get bluetooth to work. 4Runners from 2003-2005 are not prewired to have the steering wheel controls (bluetooth buttons, NOT volume/audio controls) work correctly.
