Oem headlights

Hey guys, when I bought my 2005 4runner limited from the previous owner I notice that it has the newer style 2006-2009 headlights installed. I can tell because of the shapes of the headlights and how they fit against the hood and grille. They are oem Toyota headlights though. They also have xenon bulbs installed and they have been this way since I bought the truck 8 years ago. They are getting very yellowed at thos point so I wanted to buy new oem headlight assemblies from Toyota. I purchased a new set from a Toyota dealer online and chose the year 2007. I I got the sport not limited ones. When I got the headlights I see that the low beam bulb housing will not fit a xenon bulb like my old headlights. They have a different style bulb mounting system.
My question is, did a 2007 4runner come with xenon bulbs from factory as an option? Maybe I should have ordered the headlights for a 2007 limited?? I need to either return them to Toyota or have them just do an even swap for the limited version but I'm unsure if the limited version will have the correct low beam xenon mounting?

No 4th gen came with hid headlights. Sounds like your 4Runner has retrofitted headlights. The bulb you took out have d2s marking on it?

wow I had no idea. I assumed the hid / xenon was an option because the headlights I have are oem. So I assume someone took them apart and retrofit the inner housing to accept the xenon bulb. Does this sound like something that was done before? I would really like to keep the new headlights I bought. I wonder if I can make the xenon bulbs fit without taking the entire headlight apart. I did not take notice if the bulbs had d2s on them and they are installed now so I cant easily take a look.

Yes, sounds like someone took them apart and put a xenon projector in them. If done correctly it can look Oem. I can’t say for certain though unless you have the bulb that came out of it. But since you said the bulb wouldn’t fit the new headlights I’m thinking they’re retrofitted. Any chance you could get pics of the current headlight where the bulb goes? Or you could google d2s bulb and confirm if that looks like what you took out?

Here is the first link I found of a retrofit, but there are many out there. What you could do is open up both headlights and the easiest would be to swap the new lense onto the old housing. Or open them both up and swap the guts from the old one and put it into the new one if you wanted.
