OEM Nav Install Questions

I jsut got a OEM Nav unit for my '06 T4R limited. It is the E7008 model and it had the disc. My 4R already has the JBL and the nav is setup with JBL already too. What do i need to complete the install. I know i need the antenna.here are my questions

1 - will any toyota nav antenna work?
2 - where do i get the connector for the speed sensor and backup sensor
3 - where do i get the speaker and camera(do not want to go crazy on the price)
4 - do i need the change the radio bezel for the nav HU?

if there is anything else i am forgetting let me know. i have searched but only found info for the '03-'04 models.

1 - will any toyota nav antenna work?

Can't say. I've never seen a nav antenna on my ride. I've always assumed that it was integrated into their "diversity antenna" (all the wire in the rear side windows)

Speed sensor and backup sensor? Lost me again. What is a speed sensor? If by speed sensor, you mean the device that disables certain functions while you're moving, I think that is integrated into the nav system and gets the data from the trucks o/b computer. If by backup sensor, you mean what tells the nav/backup camera that the vehicle is in reverse (thus activating the camera on the nav screen), I also think that is a combined function of the truck's computer and the nav system's brain.

3 - where do i get the speaker and camera(do not want to go crazy on the price)

Speaker? Dunno, again, what you're talking about. All the nav "voice" comes through the radio, as does the Bluetooh phone functions - the Bluetooth microphone is built into the sunglasses case in the upper console with the map lights. Backup camera, for full factory integration, will likely have to come from Toyota.

4 - do i need the change the radio bezel for the nav HU?

No, you shouldn't have to.

Do a search for j0mama, he did an install on his '06 Limited.

From what I can recall, I could be wrong though:
1. Should be integrated in the HU.
2. There is a VSS wire behind the radio cluster in one of the wire bundles. The reverse wire is behind the instrument cluster.
3. The speaker can be any speaker that doesn't require power for amplification. Like a set of cheapie speakers for a walkman.
4. If you have the CD changer radio you will need to swap the bezel and climate control display one. The OEM nav bezel is the same as the basic single disc HU bezel.

thanks, i want to make sure i have everything before i jump into this. i do have the 6 disc radio.

i do have a friend who works in a salvage yard that does late model stuff. ill call hom and see if he has a 4R. i know he has a camry that i can cut the connectors out of and get the bluetooth buttons on the wheel.

1. Any Toyota antenna SHOULD work. If you want to save some money, an Eclipse antenna is only about $25 + ship. Much cheaper than getting an antenna with Toyota stamped on it. I posted the info elsewhere in the forums here (to include a phone number of the place to order from, and a part number), however I haven't checked to see if it made it over since the new forums transferred over. It'll be in the "Audio & Electronics".

2. For the additional connectors you need for adding nav, either order them from the online Toyota dealers (don't forget pins if you need them), or go to a junk yard and you may be able to find the same connectors. I've found that the same connectors are used in many different locations around the car. So if you can find Toyotas in the junk yard = Gold mine!

3. There are so many options out there for rear view cameras now. You can get a license plate camera, or many other types depending on your install ability.
Adding a speaker isn't a necessity. I always thought that was such a cheesy option. What I did when I installed my OEM was I simply ran the needed wiring from the head unit to the JBL amp. It needs a twisted pair (two wires in shielding) to carry the voice signal from the nav unit to the amp. That is all. I believe I also posted that info here somewhere as well.

4. The radio bezel is a subject that really does not make me happy. I think the Toyota designers were incredibly... uh, stupid in having the two designs depending on trimline, or radio style. Because not only do you need to change the bezel, you will also need to change the climate controls (which is VERY EXPENSIVE!).
The only other option here is to make some sort of trim piece to go around the radio to cover the gaps.
Now one thing I've noticed is, other Toyotas, like the Sienna, have a trim piece that go around the nav unit which you might be able to modify to fit the 4th gen bezel. I have an E7007 which I might reinstall one day. I'm going to change out the faceplate LED ribbon cable so it matches the dash color. I'm planning on getting the Sienna trim piece, I just haven't had the time to do anything else with it.

thanks for all the replys. i still have not found what i am looking for though. all the posts kinda walk around the install.

i need to know where on the back of the nav unit the connector or plug goes down to the purple and red wire for the speed sensor.

i don't understand the radio to amp thing though. where does the wire from the radio to amp go, what connections?

i was able to get a bezel at the junkyard and when i pick it up i will get some connectors out of the cars he has there. im even going to look for the bluetooth buttons on one of the cars. maybe i can get lucky.
