OEM Navigation 2007 4Runner - Lockpick 2 installed

Just a FYI -
The problem with the 2007-present factory navigation units is Toyota took out the internal hack in the service menu.

I just installed the Lockpick 2 from Coastal Electronics.
The installation instructions are a little vague since it was written for multiple different vehicles. The problem I run into was my factory back up camera would not come on when put into reverse. That was all cleared up with one phone call to Coastal.
Inputting address, POI’s and Bluetooth phone controls all can be accessed while in motion with just 2 presses to the power button to activate the lockpick. Very cool…
Press the info button and the power button twice and the back up camera comes on in any gear.
I still think the OEM navigation is re****ed, but at least its usable now (of course a few hundred dollars later).
Hope this helped...

I have ordered this and am waiting for it to arrive. I know I saw a thread with pics for the removal of the head unit, but cant find it now. Do you have a link to it so I can do the install. Any other things to be on the lookout for?

Thanks
Bob

Hi,
I found this thread:

When taking the console apart, be sure to pull the components straight out, avoid bending any of the "clips" that hold the parts in place (center console, temperature controls and dash panel).

I had to take my dash apart so many times due to the incomplete instructions. They don't answer emails. With that said, the are extremely helpful when you call them.
Connect all the cables (pass thru) with the exception of the green connectors (do not install the green connectors) and you don't need the black cable with the red cap (this one is for after market back up cameras). I think the green cable is for the satellite antenna. When the green connectors are connected, it uses only your tire rotation and gyro to navigate. I was in the middle of the pacific ocean a few days after the install. It took me several tries to figure this one out (I had to go into the service menu to verify that I was getting a GPS signal). I had some trouble with the white connector, it was very tight. Difficult to connect and remove.
Usage note: When the lock pick is activated, it temporarily disables the GPS and location. When you disengage the lockpick, it will show you where you were when you activated the lockpick. It takes about 15 seconds for the GPS to re-lock and show you were you really are (with the green connector connected, the GPS never connected).
I recommend that you completely test the unit several times before putting the dash back together.
Good luck...

Lockpick

Looking for updates on how this lockpick works in the 07-09 navs. I want to buy this for my 08 but was curious if it met expectations or if there were any problems associated with this product.
Would really appreciate responses with info.

I have had mine in for almost a year, working exactly as advertised. 2008 Limited. Installation was actually easier than I thought, spend the time reading the thread.
