OEM Radio upgrade options

There's so much info on the forums about some great system upgrades; NAV, DVD, etc. But, I'm mostly interested in some low cost improvements to my '05 T4R OEM radio. I have the six speaker, non-JBL single CD system. I'd love some opinions on these questions:

1. Should I keep the OEM radio and just upgrade the speakers? If so, what speakers and sizes?
2. I'd love iPod integration. What's the best option for the OEM radio?
3. If you're of the opinion that the OEM radio needs to go, what would you recommend for an aftermarket replacement? keeping in mind that I'm not real interested in an external amp or subwoofers.

Cheap huh..? Well i think I went with the cheapest option. I got a XM Roady 2 because the radio stations suck where I live, and when I am not listening to that, I unplug the Roady, and plug in my iPod. Boom, iPod...integrated. Oh and by the way they both play through the included old school tape deck adaptor. Out the door, minus subscription costs, $50.00

Install the Scion radio. I've had some very nice systems. While I am not claiming this is the 'end all' of systems, I can't imagine more bang for the buck. The best thing is you retain use of the steering wheel buttons and the auxillary input from the console.

Which Scion unit?

Which Scion unit would be best for my '05? I have the 6 speaker system, and no steering wheel controls. I would like to integrate my iPod, and would probably upgrade the speakers.

On a speaker upgrade, I assume that perhaps I could replace the component speakers in the front door? That is replace the tweeter and speaker separately?

Scion HU Model #'s

Spent way too much time reading through all the Scion HU posts here on the forum yesterday, then have spent some time looking at current eBay Listings as well as Sold listing for price ranges, etc.

Looks to me like the lineup of Scion HU's is as follows:

T1804: older single disc, single knob HU
T1807: newer single disc, single knob HU
T1806: three nob, single disc, iPod control HU

I'm sure there are other feature differences for these radios, but I guess my primary question is the benefits of the T1806 with the built in iPod navigation nob...there seem to be only a few of these models on eBay, and they seem to be going for a relatively higher price ~ $125+. There seems to be a glut of the other two models going for as little as $25 + shipping.

I only found one 6 disc changer on eBay and couldn't discern the model number on the faceplate from the photo...

Cheap and easy upgrade to play an Ipod is a cassette adaptor. Sounds great in the stock sound system. Mine's made by Monster purchased from Best Buy. Push the cassette in, plug the cord into the earphone jack on any Ipod, and Jam. I also use it to play tunes from my Palm Pilot.

I've also got a power adaptor for my Ipod Shuffle that I plug into the power outlet in the console next to the shifter. The Shuffle works just like a remote control at my fingertips... forward, reverse, volume, pause, everything. I also have the controls in the steering wheel which aren't really needed with the shuffle there next to my right hand on the shift nob. I picked up the power adaptor from Target of all places.
