OEM Skid Plate Differences

As my signature says, I have a 2005 Limited V8 4x4. When I bought the vehicle it had quite a bit of rust on the front skid plates. I found a local salvage yard with a 2004 Sport Edition V8 4x4 and got the skids off it for a deal.

Went to put them on today and they are very different. Anyone else notice this before? Did it change when they updated the V8 or is it a difference between the SE and the Limited?

can you post a pictures of the two you have, i wasnt aware there was any changes between any of them.

The bottom one looks like a V6 skid. The V8's should have the screening like your originals.

My 05 V6 has the screen. So they must of changed it in 05

Both are from a V8 with 4WD.

I am leaning toward the theory that they changed in between 04-05

My '07 V6 2WD Sport has the bottom one without a screen.

I thought I got them from a 4wd but now I'm second guessing myself after this thread. Guess I need to go back.

Local "high end" salvage yard was expanding to a warehouse. They had just received approximately 500 additional vehicles, 6 of which were 4th gen 4Runners, untouched. 4 were V8s, 3 of which were 4wd.

Probably just a simple mix up, I believe the screens for the 4wd is to aid in cooling of the front dif. since 2wd's don't have one it was probably cheaper to produce a non-screen skid plate for us 2wd guys.
