OEM tire warranty ?

I got a flat on the way home from work today. After putting on the spare and going to a tire shop, we saw a slice (in the tread, not the sidewall) in the Dunlop AT20 Grandtrek P265/70 R17. I just bought the SR5 (2010) this past Saturday, and it has 197 miles on it. I called the service department, (one half hour before they closed) and they said they will call me back tomorrow. Will the dealer replace this tire at no cost to me ?

I think that they should.

Any opinions ?

It's a tough call. Keep in mind that the car manufacturer doesn't warranty tires - the tire manufacturer does. Even if it is a manufacturing defect in the tire, Toyota has no obligation to do anything.

If there's a possibility that the damage was caused by a road hazard, then you'll have a tough time claiming it's a warranty issue. It all depends on what the damage looks like.

Your Toyota dealer might be able to get the tire replaced by Dunlop and swap it for you as a service. Given Toyota's bad press right now, they might do it for you just to make you happy. If the dealer refuses, you might have better luck going to a tire shop in your area that carries Dunlop tires. A tire place might have more knowledge and more pull with Dunlop than the Toyota dealer.

Good news ! The dealer ordered my new tire today, (it will be here by Friday) and they said that I don't have to pay anything. They will try to warrant it, but she said, "if that doesn't work, we (the dealership) will eat the cost of the new tire". Life is good.
