OEM Tires

I have 300 miles on my new SR5
and will be driving over to my favorite tire dealership to dump the OEM tires after work tonight! I can not believe that on a 30k vehicle Toyota used them!

Am I too an*l about the tires, or do you folks feel the same way?

Yes, the stock OEM tires suck arse. Get Revos and sell your old tires on ebay. I sold my piece o' crap Bridgestone H/T's w/ 5k miles on ebay for $200 so you should be able to get some $$ for them.

I agree. I was kind of shocked to see that my OEM Bridgestone H/Ts are rated Traction "B", Temperature "B".

I have never bought a "B" traction rated tire in my life. Even for old "beater" daily drivers with high mileage, I have always bought Traction "A" (temp "A" or "B" depending on vehicle) tires.

My problem is that my wife does not see the need to spend close to $1000 for tires on a brand new vehicle. I pick my fights wisely, and this one isn't worth fighting about...yet.:

If you wait for the right deal you won't need to pay $1k for Revos. I got my set of 4 for $600, Firestone at the time had a buy 3 get one free deal. A month later I sold the old tires for $200 so I got Revo'd up for only $400. Also I purchased them up in Oregon so no sales tax.

I wanted to get the Nautical Blue 4Runner simply because it had Michelin X Terrains on it, but my wife didn't want the blue one.

I should've made the dealer switch the X Terrains onto the vehicle that we purchased, but I didn't think about it until afterwards.

I was thinking $1000 for five REVOs. I am not sure I would want to keep the H/T as a spare, especially if I decide to go with a five-tire rotation pattern.

The H/T are not that bad, they are not great but just OK. You should experience the Dunlops. Get a set of REVOs you will be HAPPY!

I thought about the same thing. A few weeks ago there was a guy here selling four OEM 17" alloys for $250 (total) that had 10 miles on them!

However, shipping from CA to PA was about $180, and then I found out that the tire pressure monitors would be problematic.

The stealer wants something like $120 for each TPM, and then they need to be programmed at an additional cost to match your vehicle. Otherwise, your TPMS warning light will act up. It ended up that my snow tire plan was going to cost me well over $1000.

I may give these four-season Nokians a try when the time is right:

Just an FYI - I have four of the Nokians on my 2005 Sport with no sensors and no problems. The tires have been perfect. Excellent directional stability in snow and on ice.

The sensor light has yet to come on. I have a second set of sport wheels for the winter tires and I decided to try it without the sensors because of the cost. The light has never even flickered. Maybe it doesn't see a problem when all four tires go away, I don't know. But I'm pleased I managed to avoid spending $350 on sensors and whatever for programming them.

I picked up my Runner last thursday and had an appt. fri. am to put on 70 series Revo's (5) inc. spare.

I was able to trade in my Donlops since they only had 60 mile's on them and got 50.00 per tire , I know that's not great but the were out of my hair and atleast got a credit for the new Revo's. After all was said and done I paid just over 700.00 with the trade in of the old one's including the spare. That included mount and balance , lifetime rotation and balance , and tax. I was happy with that for all 5 being replaced. Don't know if it's a good deal or not.
