OEM vs FJ spring question

I have a few questions regarding the stock 4runner springs vs the FJ springs.

I recently aquired a complete stock FJ suspension, I originally just wanted the rear springs to help stiffen the rear for towing but ended up getting everything (shocks, springs and UCAs).

A few months before i got the FJ suspension I leveled the front of my 4runner with 5100s and stock springs. I dont have any real complaints about the ride on or off road, but wanted to know if the FJ front springs are much better, if so how?

Last question that I hope someone can answer. Has anyone towed with the FJ springs and 5100 rear shocks? If so is there an improvement at all? I am just trying to get less sag/bounce out of the back while towing.

My fj springs are alot stiffer than stock 4runner springs. Imo I think the 4runner should have come with these from the factory. Put em on I Think you'll like it. You will get approximately an inch of lift from them too. Perfect ride for me.
 
I'm sure Ark will chime in on this (since he's the guru!) but my experience with the FJC coils has been nothing but good. They gave me about 1/2" lift all around, are a little stiffer (in a good way, less body sway), and it transformed my tired stock runner suspension. I agree with what scojoe said in that Toyota should've just used the FJC coils on our trucks to begin with.

You won't regret the swap, go for it...what setting do you have your 5100's at?
 
Thanks for the responses. I wanted to see if it was a noticeable difference between the springs and since it is and I have some laying around, I might as well put them on :)
 
I thought it was an amazing upgrade compared to stock, it was one of the first mods I made.

It went from boat like and bouncing around after going through dips and over small bumps. For comparison at about 20 mph I went from bouncing 4-5 times before slowly leveling out over a speed table to bouncing 1-2 times and leveling out.
 
Well worth the time it'd take to swap the front coils IMO. As for the rear springs, it'll help some, but they won't make a huge difference in sag when towing. If you frequently tow heavy loads, I'd consider a set of air bags for the rear. This is the only way you'll get less sag when loaded and not have a super stiff ride when unloaded.
 
I towed a 5k lb ski boat w/ stock XREAS and stock coils. I noticed alot of rear end sag. I then swapped to FJ coils front and rear along w/ 5100's. There is not nearly as much rear end sag as with the stock coils. From what I can tell/feel, I think the FJ coils are stiffer on the large bumps, but more forgiving on the small everyday bumps. Kind of like they are more "progressive" coils if there is such a thing-smooth at first, then firm up when you need it.
Don't know if you will have the same results that I did, but the rear sags very little even with a tounge-heavy trailer on. Of course ARK is right, airbags will get rid of ALL the sagging if the coils don't help enough.

Good input on the rear sag. Since I've not used the rear FJ coils, hard for me to say exactly. Sounds like there may be less sag than I was thinking.

I am looking to do the same mod, and have had a hard time finding what setting to use on the front 5100's. Anyone with the knowledge to know what setting to use if going with 5100's f&r and 07-09 fj springs f&r? Thanks in advance!

if your wanting around 2 inches of lift go with .85, if you go into the 2.5-3 inch lift area you might want new UCA
 
Hey, I was wondering were a good place to buy these FJC springs at? I am looking to do the same mod, as everyone seems to like it, I just don't know where to start looking for them. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

You can buy new Moog brand FJ springs at rock auto or any other online parts store. If you want used OEM sign up to be a mamber of the FJ cruuser forum.
 
One question I have for anyone that might know is this:
There's a sticky over in the suspension/lift section that includes spring rates and lengths for a variety of coils. In it, it notes "OEM FJC", but neither it nor this discussion note which years or versions apparently there are four different possibilities: 2WD and 4WD versions, and early (<2010) vs late (2010+).

Anyone know?
