OEM Wheels and Larger Tires

I am at a debate I know that I want to ugrade my tires from the crap that is on my wheels now. I wanted a set of 18 inch wheels and AT tires, but now I think the bes route to go is sticking with the 17's. I am going to get a Toytec lift for my 2005 and I want to install the MT BFG 285 70 17 tires, will does tires fit the OEM wheels that come with the 4Runner or are those tires too big for the wheels? Also, would I need Spidertrax spacers for this tire size and wheels, will the Spidertrax help with the rubbing?

You will need spacers. Or buy wheels with greater backspacing.

Get the Spidertrax and then you'll fit a 285. I have an 05 3" Toytec Spacer lift and 1" Toytec Body Lift. I'm only running a 275/70/17 but thats because I bought my tires before my BL and spacers. I actually went with an ebay company for my spacers because they offer 1.5" spacers instead of 1.25" but I still had to do a lot of trimming with my wheel well.

Did you have to do a lot of trimming with the 275 70 17 size tires and the spacers and body lift or was it before the spacers and body lift? If I get the Spacers will I be able to fit the 285 70 17 or 275 70 17 tires without rubbing or any wheel well trimming? Which size spacers should I get, the 1.25 or the 1.5?

I actually didn't have any rubbing until I put the spacers on. There was some minor rubbing on my UCA but nothing to be worried about.

I can't be completely sure if you'll fit 285s without rubbing. I do know that I'll be getting at least 285's on my next purchase.
