Off-Roading A 4 Runner... Parts Questions....

Hi There,
I'm new here. And will propbably be flammed instantly. But it's worth a shot. A friend of mine recently purchased a ~'06 4 Runner. Which he plans on modding. I am a jeep driver (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6" of lift, 33" tires... yada yada yada).

We are mild off-roaders mainly snow & mud but sometimes light rock crawling. Questions I have:

1.) Lift Kit Options?

2.) Are they equipped with LSDs, Electronic Lockers stock?

3.) Whats the gear ratios? At what tire size do you reccomend changeing the ratio?

4.) What differentials do 4 runners come with?

5.) Protection? Anyone make skid plates for 4 runners?

6.) Anyone Make Aftermarket Lockers or LSDs for the new 4 runner?

Thanks In Advance,
Brendan

1) Yes, many. search as there are many topics and types related to this question.

2) 4Runner is equiped with ATRAC which works amazingly well. Again search if you want info on this system.

3) I don't have an answer to this question.

4) Locking center. front and rear are controlled by ATRAC.

5) I don't believe there is readily available aftermarket skid plates yet, but again search as there was a recent thread on this subject.

6) ARB makes lockers for the 4Runner.

cool... what generation or chassis/production codes are the 2006 4runners?

Im finding a whole bunch of stuff...

exteremly interested in OME suspension setups, ARB locker setups, Total Chaos Setups, (might be out on a line here) soild axle setups?

If anyone has any information reguarding these setups please chime in.... (im looking for places to purchase, installation & daily driving problems, overall reviews)

thanks again

i am not 100% sure, but i think the gear ratio, at least for the front differential is either 3.91 or 3.73. toyota sells one or the other. you can call toyota with your vin # and find ouit which one you got. this was something we had to figure out for my front locker from ARB. when i was contemplating tires, i was told i had a 410 and could easily handle a BFG 285 tire without changing the gears.

a lot of the members of this site have up to 285's and have not changed their gears. anything above a 285 on the 4runner and you will encounter some rubbing issues. (even with a 3' lift) some of the members with 285's have had to make some minor mods to the body b/c of rubbing. (taking off mud flaps)

hope this helps.
