Off Roading In Las Vegas

Was in Las Vegas with my wife the last few days while she had a conference to go to and was looking for things to do during the day as I don't really gamble. A few months before going I was googling to see if anyone offered off road excursions in the area and came upon Las Vegas Rock Crawlers. Booked a trip to go with them to Logandale Trails about an hour out of town. Awesome time and really helped scratch the off road itch. Tim, the guide and owner was really cool. We started talking about Moab after he asked if I had any experience off road and I mentioned I had been to Moab twice in my 4Runner, Colorado and offroading here in Texas. I know this is a T4R site, but the Jeeps they have are awesome. They have long arm suspensions, bumpers and 35s or 37s depending on whice one you're in. So capable. And you follow the guide and he spots for you up the obstacles. You're not just riding along, you're driving the whole time. I was in a blue TJ and the other group was in a red JK 4 door. If anyone is looking for a cool excursion while they are in Vegas, look them up. I'm not affiliated with them at all, but just want to support a fellow offroader and cool guy.

There are days I miss the ol' tj, but since I have a sunroof and a back window that rolls down, it is quickly forgotten with the touch of a button!

Driving that Jeep was awesome. I'd never driven one off road or even on the street. I think the only time I lifted a tire is when the guide deliberately steered me into a hole so I could lift the front tire for a photo. But, we had to drive an hour out of town to the trails and that thing was way less comfortable on the highway than my 4Runner. I would not look forward to driving it 1,000 miles to Moab like I do the 4Runner.

That third picture spot looks really treacherous. Wouldn't want to do it without an expert spotter.

For sure OP, Wranglers aren't meant for long distance touring. That's probably why u see them towed behind motorhomes. They're very easy to flat tow, unlike our 4rnrs.

Very true. You didn't mention it, so be glad you didn't have a strong cross wind. At interstate speeds with a strong wind, the best way I can describe it is to say it feels like you're driving a styrofoam cup. It just gets blown all over the place and you're just along for the ride. :dizzy:

Yeah, there was not much wind that day, but even then it felt a little squirrely, and took a few miles to get used to.

I thought that was cool too. We met him at one of the hotels on the Strip and he tosses us the keys after some small talk and checking to see if everyone has a driver's license and says follow me. He was a great spotter and even the other group that had four drivers rotating out turns, none of whom had any off road experience had any trouble.
