"Official" 5th Gen 4Runner Sales Thread

Typical sales drop from December... BUT biggest January ever.

My predictions:

- Rough calculations put the 5th Gen around 736k by the end of the year
- 5th Gen won't surpass total 3rd Gen in 2018
- 5th Gen surpasses highest 3rd Gen sales year with 2018 numbers
- 5th Gen surpasses total 3rd Gen sales by March 1st 2019

Welp. Single highest sales month...EVER.

...not shown is the fact that the single highest sales year ever recorded was a third gen 4Runner in 1997 at 128,496. Just a mere 200 more units than 2017.

Something else to keep in mind is the economy and gas prices though the years. 1997 was at the end of the dot.com boom right before the economy crashed. Around 2008 was the housing/major recession market crash. Sometime around 2010 gas prices were very high slowing suv sales. Right now suv's sales of any type are hot, gas is cheap and the economy is booming. This can all change very quickly. I had a 1978 Ford Bronco back in 1979 I tried to sell it. Gas prices rose rapidly and you could not give big suv's away. I ended up just keeping it.

Ok - so the numbers are down slightly from 2017, but still on target with most months and not a departure from the trend as a whole.

This is great info Ryan (coming from a new member...but something I've seen on VW forums) - thanks for continuing to update this.

So we are in the market for a new 4Runner, with no specific time pressure. Not knowing what's happening yet for the 2019 model year, but looking at these stats for the past 2 years...June-July-Aug might be the time to buy...assuming inventory is still around

Interesting to do a quick nationwide search on 2018 new 4Rs. 2 different sites produce a number of about 17,500...who knows how accurate....represents about 1.5 months of inventory based on March sales

What updates? Shocks on the 4R Pro, nothing on the other models as I recall.

... So I definitely think there is a sub group of people who are aware that the 2019 4Runner will come with some updates and are holding off. Toyota themselves point out that there were two fewer days to sell cars in this April vs April 2017.

9,970 Sold in April 2018. -564 from this point last year.

Only off 1% YTD vs. 2017....but recent trend seems to support that theory

I'm keeping tabs. We're 1,307 units ahead of last year's record breaking year.

Any number of units above 128,496 breaks the single year record. We're 1,107 units ahead of that pace.

2019 will push 5th Gen total production numbers well past 3rd Gen total production numbers.

The 5th Gen 4Runner is the 4wheeler of the future. After the 3d gens die out and pass on, the 5th Gen will assume the mantle of the cheap offroader.
