didn't see any spotters on the pictures - were you travelled alone? And looks like there were not many trees to use winch in case you need it : )

Yes, I always do what one should never do - off roading alone. I carry a sat phone, 2M radio, and have pretty extensive tools, recovery, and survival gear. For me, it is worth it not to have to rely on others and to have my own schedule, which very often, last minute.

That trail actually has a bunch of winch points installed on the main obstacle. I used one, as the locker and ATRAC were not working at the crawling pace I was using on a vertical rock wall. I probably would have made with a little bit of skinny pedal and momentum, but because of my situation, it was prudent to spool out some line and minimize risk to the vehicle.

Great Pics Jeremy, I assume that's a Bud Built hidden winch mount you have there? How much have you used it, and what are your thoughts so far? Seriously thinking of going this direction with my SR5. Cheers!

Yep, it's a Bud Built mount. I have only used it a couple of times so far, but so far so good.

my first time there, so I didn't really know too much about it. I never heard about anything being closed though...its just about the only option for around here to make a day trip. plenty of trails to keep you busy for a weekend. Pretty mild wheeling...several 4th gens were bone stock, some with running boards or nerf bars (one guy found out the hard way why you don't want to wheel with running boards :ybrick.

I only had 3-4 hours on Saturday afternoon before I had to hit the road for my 2 hour drive home...so I missed out on quite a bit. there were a lot of trails and obstacles I would have loved to of given a shot.

This was my first dry run to build some confidence. its nice having the big chrome westin accessories removed. this trip just made me even more excited for the COVE in October!

Only had this 4runner for a few months, so no mods yet at the time. (except for icon shift knobs) I just figured if I'm going to have the thing, it would be unjust to not take it and do it to it. (NO MATTER WHAT I OWE - YEEEAAAAAHHHHH, How you like me now I'm gonna wait until it's paid off crowd?) EH Hum... sorry.

Anyway, Jambo was a hoot. It lit a fire in me and the mods are happening.

From what I've read, some of the trails got closed due to a private developer company buying up some adjacent space, or maybe the adjacent private property complaining about it? I remember trying to get in to the dictum ridge trail entrance only to see a big fat no trespassing sign a few hundred yards up, backing down a steep dirt hill is loads of fun, especially if you've never got off pavement before ray:

This forest is huuuuuuuge though, you can easily spend several days trying to ride all the trails. Here's a link to download the trail maps if you are interested:

Just a suggestion, but next time take it a little slower. Your bow wave is pretty big and looks like you might be coming close to kicking water into your intake. A bow wave should look a little more subtle like this...

Yeah the LF 240's. The 170's just looked too small.

you are at least the second person since Saturday to mention shoe creek...and I have definitely heard of Potts mountain. I have not actually been to potts, but I hear it is not a place I want to take my truck. supposedly pretty gnarly. Most people around here only take their beaters or rock crawling specific vehicles. I don't think its a place I will even be attempting without sliders, aftermarket skids, winch, etc...
