Heh, I just noticed that on the pics coming down the steps. [MENTION=78273]Jeremy556[/MENTION] now I see exactly why you were asking about the BB skids. Wow.

After seeing those pics I'm so looking forward to doing Moab in the spring. Can't wait to get out there.

These pics are mild, my wife (the photographer) only gets out when bored now, and I don't have much fodder for the off-road pics thread, even when we do some pretty famous trails.

Carefull when you come out here, it might be dry or 24" of powder

LOL - that is just the latest. It has been put back into shape 6 times now by local metal fab shops, along with new brackets made for the rear skid, and several pieces of angle iron welded in for gusseting. I am about to dump them and order some BudBuilts.
I am a big ARB fan, but they really dropped the ball on this product.

Should have seen it after I slid down the back of Baby Lion's Back on a sheet of ice before a lift and bigger tires. It was like heat shrink around the radiator mount.

Yeah, for sure get something beefier. Considering my shrockworks skid is bent with a small weld broken (and has dented my cross-member...OOPS), I shudder to think what shape I'd be in with the ARB skid...

Moab is just flat out amazing brother. Been twice myself and can't wait to get back out there again.

Renting for now, but will probably buy it (and add a shop), or buy a lot in the same area.
Pros:
less than 2 hours from: Moab, Ouray, La Sals, Grand Mesa, Black Canyon, Blue Mesa Lake, Uncompahgre
Neighbors are far away
Colorado river and Colorado National Monument are walking distance
Cons:
Internet is provided by 'some guy' using high gain 802.11 antennas and repeaters. It isn't exactly reliable, and I work from home. Just setup a yagi antenna and am able to get LTE service for backup.
Rattlesnakes, scorpions, camel spiders, mountain lions, and lots of coyotes

Did a weekend wheeling trip with my brother and his 2006 DC Tacoma. We started off the day meeting at Blue Mountain Brewery in Nelson County to grab some delicious camp brews for later. From then, it was on the Shoe Creek about 30 miles south.

After running shoe creek we headed about an hour Northwest to Harrisonburg to head up to Flagpole Knob/Meadow Knob. Beforehand we hit up Jack Browns http://www.jackbrownsjoint.com/home.html, which is a killer craft brew/burger bar that is a must-do in Harrisonburg. Following some delicious burgers we set out for Flagpole. After about 1 mile on the dirt (30 miles from civilization) my brother is panicked and yells on the CB for me to stop and pull over. He is pulls over behind me and kills the engine. He smelled oil and the "check oil" light was blinking. When we open the hood, oil was EVERYWHERE. We quickly saw the problem, and were immediately relieved. The tacoma has a top-mount oil filter - the battery tie down had been incorrectly installed (a few days ago by some chump at autozone) had come loose. The battery had bounced into the filter and punched a nickel-sized hole in it.

We waiting about 20-30 minutes for his truck to cool off, fire extinguishers in hand, and then headed 30 miles back into town for some 5w-30, a filter, filter wrench, tie down, degreaser, and some extra underwear. Got it all patched up and headed up the mountain as it was getting dark and found a good spot up on the ridge.

The ride down the mountain was in eventful comparatively speaking. All in all a great quick trip!

Ran Red Cone and Radical Hill yesterday. They were awesome. I thought they were harder than described on Trail Damage and some other places I researched. I would not want to do them without at least a minimal lift like mine and good skid plates. I have the RCI t-case and transmission skid plates and the stock front one (RCI doesn't make a KDSS compatible skid yet). The RCI skids took some major hits on both trails and absolutely saved my t-case, transmission and exhaust crossover. The factory mid skid now has a huge dent in it. Unfortunatley I don't have many action shots of myself on the major obstacles. The first and last pic ar Red Cone and the middle is Radical Hill (sorry, they got out of order when I uploaded). That trail is awesome. It has some really rough large rock obstacles at the bottom and is off camber in the middle. It finishes up with an extended climb that is extremely narrow and filled with large rocks.

Here are some more. The first three are Radical Hill. The last two are Red Cone. The third one is another hard obstacle in the early part of Radical Hill. Pictures, as usual can't capture the size and difficulty of the obstacle. I banged hard on my skid plates here, got high centered, reversed a bit but was still stuck, turned the wheel a little and managed to get over. ATRAC and the rear locker were working hard on this and many other obstacles. Again, they are awesome trails and I highly reccomend them. Hopefully going to run Peak 10 trail here in Breckenridge tomorrow and then Mosquito Pass on our way out.

yep, that's an optional side obstacle on the east side of Black Bear.

It makes the climb up BB a little more fun, a very rocky, 45 degree climb up a flowing river. There are some pretty good side obstacles on a lot of the "famous" trails in the area, if you know where to look.

Keep in mind the TD folks are mostly running SWB JEEPs with 35+ inch tires, and many of the trails have not been run in over 5 years.

^^ Yeah, I guess that's true. But some of the trail damage trip reports are pretty recent, like last year or so. Also, some of the members have pretty stock Cherokees and similar vehicles. One guy even has a stock looking 90s Land Rover, 30 inch tires and all! I am glad the trails are harder anyway, it makes them more fun and challenging.
