Official Awning Thread

I think my next purchase will be an awning. With the amount of camping and day trips we do I think I would get a lot of use out of it. I was able to find a couple of threads talking about awnings but nothing where we can see all the options with pictures in one place.

Anyone who has an awning if you wouldn't mind posting couple pictures of it installed and in use so others can decide which make and options are best for them.

Also if anyone has suggestions on where to buy to get good pricing or free shipping or anything that would help others as well.

I will update this first post with the various options available as people post. Thanks!!

Here is what I found yesterday. I will update with posts from here and anything else I find.

Here you go https://www.google.com/search?hl=en.....1ac.1.64.img..0.17.858...0j0i24.km4TaPL8A6I and if you click on a picture most of them will bring you back here.

If I were to buy another awning it would definitely be a bat wing type, don't get me wrong the ARB has been solid but something to cover the hatch area would be awesome.

I'd like to open the hatch...

I'm with you on this. I just wish one of the mfg would get clever and shape them to still let you open the rear hatch.

ARB awning 2000 with room, I use it for camping those times I don't feel like bringing the trailer with RTT.

ARB 2500 and I also have the awning rom that attached to it.

I love the option of awning/vs awning room. Great quality and really good deals at Autoanything when they run coupons and free shipping.

summer is here, no more tarp awning for me

upgrading from my poor-mans awning pictured below to an ARB2500

what awning mounts are people using with their Gobi Stealth racks?
here's what i'm looking at instead of the Gobi mounts:

How is using the room for camping? Compared to an rtt, lipek?

I'm considering this as an alternative to an rtt for a 2 week Moab trip. At least 10 nights camping. It would be great to avoid attaching a 100lbs brick to my roof.

Very nice- especially in the winter. I put a small heater in there and it was really comfortable.

Plenty of room, you can stand up inside no problem, and with straight walls you make use of 100% of the footprint space.

Works great especially that you can stand up in it, ARB claims its waterproof but I've not tested it in the rain yet. Easy and fast to set up also.

Thanks for the info gents!

What does it look like on the side against the truck? Is there possibility for paint damage in the wind?

I like to keep my red paint looking good, there are plenty of permanent pinstripes but I am mindful.

st8rocks I don't think so, other than a protected zipper (allows you to open the door in order to access the truck) there is nothing there to damage the paint.

cheap mounting bracket alternates?

Has anyone made their own brackets to mount an ARB awning to a Baja/Gobi rack?

I just can't justify spending $85 2 little clamp-on brackets. I'm sure I could find some cheap hardware and bolts and make a functional mount for MUCH less.

If anyone has made their own brackets, I would be interested to see your ideas.

Any recommendations for a 1.5-1.6 meter awning? Have a Front Runner 3/4 length rack going on and don't want too much excess to the front.

Great thread idea OP, will be following. Think I've found my first must-have add-on. Did not realize they made these awnings with the rooms. Good stuff.
