Of the new things I learned thanks to you on the thread, I have pretty strong feelings about all three:
Strong like: front Sway Bar disconnect is a big deal. I never thought much of kdss on the 4R, this is plenty enough. No issues with real flex.
Strong dislike: longer and wider. The current 4R is terrible to maneuver in tight offroad spots already, anything but nimble. Ask me how many point turns I have had to make on tight mountain 4x4 trails.
Strong dislike, perhaps show stopper: lack of 2nd seat fold: this is just silly. Is this for real? How does an offroad vehicle not be able to be fully cargo mode with 2 pax only? Heck, this is an issue even for some of our road applications.
I was quite excited by the new Tacoma, relative to my expectations. The new 4R meets my expectations overall but that is by no means exciting.
So if I needed one new all-around vehicle right now, I would think twice as hard how I could make a Tacoma work for me. Sure, too long for some trails, but I have PLENTY of use for that front wheel travel!
Overall, I am a purist: my old school 5th gen, well modded, is perfect for my most highly coveted uses and a long range Model Y is perfect for all others. Best of both worlds as far as I am concerned....
But the new 4Runner is alright. Just not an exciting one for me personally.
