M1911, I really like the choices. Do you own a Glock 19?

I have a Glock 23 (basically the same as a 19, but in .40 S&W). If I had to do it over again, I'd have bought a 19 instead. Due to MA messed up laws, it is hard for me to get a new Glock, so for now I'll stick with what I have. Yes, a Glock 19 is a very good choice.

You will want to replace the factory sights right away, as the factory sights flat out suck. I recommend a tritium front, plain black rear. I like the 10-8 sights, and I would go with the 0.156" notch rear sight. Heinie makes good sights as well.

If you have access to Glock sight tools, you can replace the sights in 10 minutes. Or you can get any gunsmith to do it for you for a few dollars.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but if you had to choose your top 5 guns, what would they be?

M14 variant - something about that rifle just makes me smile every time I send around down range. We made an emotional connection years ago.

AR15 - most versatile firearm in existence, IMO. Market place is flooded with accessories and parts, so that counts for something. Women have their shoes and their jewelry, but men have the AR15. :cheer2::AK47: to accessorize. YAYYY.

1911 - a timeless masterpiece. Give me a Van Gogh and I'll sell it to buy 5 million 1911s. I'll mount a Coulson my walls to make up for it.

FN45 USG - can you say 15+ rounds of 45 Cal? That and it feels so natural in my hand

Most .22 rifles - simply need something cheap to shoot. Good for introducing novices and kids to shooting as well.

Actually, you can't replace the grips on a Glock. Some folks like their guns to be more aggressively textured so there are a number of approaches that some folks use for a Glock:

- add a rubber slip-on "grip". This is just a rubber sleeve that slips over the grip.

- stipple the grip. Basically, they use a hot tool to burn depressions in the grip.

- add grip tape. Grip tape is a product that has a texture sort of like sandpaper with adhesive on the back. It just sticks onto the grip. There are two alternatives here. The "expensive" alternative is to buy grip tapes that have been precut to match the grip. The cheap alternative is to go to Home Depot and buy stair tread tape or go to a skateboard store and buy skateboard tape. Cut some out and stick it to your grip.

None of these things are really necessary and all are a matter of taste. My recommendation would be that you try shooting it as is. After you've shot it for a while, try some grip tape -- if you don't like it you can take it off easily and it didn't cost much.

One of the criticisms of the Generations 1-3 Glocks is that the grip circumference is rather large. If you have smaller hands, they may not work as well. The Gen 4 Glocks (finally!) fixed that with replaceable backstraps. Prior to Gen 4, some folks would have grip reductions performed where a gunsmith would basically shave the grip. These grip reductions ranged from ugly to grotesque, IMO.

I don't know about price and availability of Gen 4 Glocks these days. MA gun laws are such that the new Glocks are not on gun store shelves. So you'll have to go check out your local gun stores.

I've got an M1A. Very nice rifle. I like it better than my FAL and my AR10. I keep loaded AR15 and M14 mags in my safe, ready to go.

I've got a Delta Elite in stainless steel. I had a gunsmith put on an extended thumb safety, beavertail grip safety, trigger job, and Heinie sights. Nice gun. I took it along on a trip to Alaska. I got some Buffalo Bore hardcast bullets -- 220gr at 1175 fps isn't as hot as fullboat .44 Mag, but it isn't anything to sneeze at either. It's a 1911 in 10mm. What's not to like?

I had a P226, but it just didn't work for me. The grip circumference was just too big and I never could get used to DA/SA. Pistols really are a personal preference.

I've done very little to my Delta 10mm. It's a real tack driver as it is. 10mm is the perfect round. I wish Sig Sauer would make a 10mm. The Sig P226 would have maybe worked better if you changed the trigger to the thinner one or the thicker one and installed the SRT as well. I have large hands so the thinner trigger and SRT is what is on all of my Sigs.

As far as the Remy 870 That thing has never skipped on me. I've put about 2k rounds through it, which is nothing, but not one issue so far. I lubed it real good with Brian Enos slide glide on the action and the rails and worked it in real good. I then used Lubriplate to maintain it. Lubriplate oil is thinner but it stays on the rails and action well and doesn't gum up.

I believe that mine was too old to accept the SRT. Yes, it might have worked better if I'd had a short trigger put in.

I've done very little to my Delta 10mm. It's a real tack driver as it is.

The changes that I made to mine were not to increase the accuracy, as it was quite accurate from the beginning, but rather to make it easier for me to shoot. An extended thumb safety lets me keep my right thumb on the safety while firing. The standard grip safety bites into the web of my hand, so the beavertail is more comfortable. A trigger job is always helpful. The stock sights don't work well for my eyes, so I always replace them with something that works better for me (Heinie or 10-8 Performance). All of this stuff is personal taste, of course, and different people like different things.

I put a hold on a M&P compact .40 this morning and started my BG check.
Colorado background queue this morning was ~4400 and 3.5 days. Tonight it was up to ~11,000 and 8.5 days.

I also bought the last 4- 15 round magazines they had.

Any pending legislation in congress will cause a spike in gun sales and ammunition. We gun people are hoarders. My local gun store sold 45 assault rifles over the holidays. It's a shame that for someone profit so well off of firearms it is usually preceded by a terrible tragedy.
