Getting my son a Rem 783 in 308 caliber, with S&B optics and a few other perks. He set a goal to develop six pack abs before he turned 12 in March this year. and he is there already . He is a math geek so the math required to do a 800 meter plus shot is right up his alley.
I hunt / shoot with a bunch of PhD's and they nick named him Baby Sniper for his skills. Cannot wait to send lead down range with this thing.

The 700 is a classic. I got a 700 CDL .270 with a Nikon Buckmaster scope last fall. It's a good-looking, nice shooting gun and a reasonable price. I'm very happy with the .270 as well. I plan on a AR-10 for my .308 as soon as prices go down.

I had a very long, boring dream last night that ended in disappointment:
I was in a grocery store/odd Walmart and came across a bunch of ammo...Except they were being stored in one of those little pepsi drink coolers at the end of each aisle (along with milk etc). I looked at all the ammo they had in stock, tons of .22 in thousand-round cases.
Odd thing about the ammo was that it fell out everywhere like someone busted the boxes... so I didn't buy it, thinking that I'd have no idea how many rounds had fallen out. It seemed like a good deal, though it didn't surprise me how careless people would destroy something else because they didn't need it. ( $27 for 1000 rounds of bulk.)
The real exciting thing was a bunch of boxes of .380. And I mean a ton. Only $4 a box of 50 rounds each. (white and blue boxes, I think they said American Eagle which is probably inaccurate).
The whole time I was pacing around trying to figure out which cashier to bring it to, and muster up the confidence to try and buy handgun ammo even though I'm under age. I recall someone having posted that they never get ID'd for it.
I let it go and decided to come back later because it was too late to buy ammo. Came back the next morning and I could NOT find the ammo! there were a few boxes left of .380, but I didn't see the cashier that I had picked the night before who would have been my best bet.
Defeated, I bought some frozen food and went home.
/dream. I can't believe how well I remembered that. I can give details this time.

Have to vent on the Alabama situation:
This is just another example of the justice system failing. This guy sounds like a real POS that should have been locked-up a long time ago. Instead of gun-control, let's start enforcing the laws we have and get people like this off the street!

Prayers go out to this poor kid and his family.

The Remington 700 is a nice rifle and a classic but I probably wont use a bolt action that often. I just picked up the updated Mossberg ATR 100 in 30.06 with Marinecote finish for a little over $300, and I have to say I'm fairly impressed. I can't wait to take this thing out and shoot it... once I find some ammo... and a place that will let me fire 30.06. :sniper:

It's probably not by fault of the manufacturer, rather the years and years of neglect/abuse by Soldiers. But yeah, they suck.
