Although the excerpt refers to a guard dog as a sheepdog, the meaning is still the same.
Excerpt from Lt. Col. David Grossman, author of "On Killing and On Combat":
From a retired colonel and veteran from the Vietnam war:
“Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident.” …
Thus there is a paradox, and we must grasp both ends of the situation: We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep.

“Then there are the wolves,” the old war veteran said, “and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy.” Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero’s path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, can not and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.
Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn’t tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, “Baa.”
Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.

Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog; it is just what you choose to be. Also understand that a sheepdog is a funny critter: He is always sniffing around out on the perimeter, checking the breeze, barking at things that go bump in the night, and yearning for a righteous battle. That is, the young sheepdogs yearn for a righteous battle. The old sheepdogs are a little older and wiser, but they move to the sound of the guns when needed right along with the young ones.
Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day.

I don't seem to fit into any one of those categories...
Well I fell asleep after the range tonight. gahh it was colder than last week! Yesterday was great though. we had some serious wind. 16* wind chill. So we only lasted an hour again.
Interesting observations I have had today:
1- I have hit every shot on two different Mosins at 100yds on a 1ft round steel target. They are my first and only rifles I've used with open sights. I miss quite a bit with scoped weapons.
2- I shoot better offhand. This is my target today at 10 yds. I was trying for center of each quadrant but I never made it any further cause it was so damn cold. I used my favorite .45 1991a1. Wish I could afford one. love it. so much. But seriously... a few yards further and my first time one handed. compare that to my last posting.
Now that I think about it though, I have trouble focusing on the sight normally. it switches between left and right eye but right is my dominant. I suspect that I also hold it too close to me during normal shooting.
3- I need to ID targets first. I saw a junk looking thing 25yds over and blew it up with my shotgun (surprised I hit it, and it was cool).... But then I realized it was a girl's coffee maker she had brought to shoot at (she was telling me about it earlier) and I blew it to pieces with a single shot. Had to apologize lol.
I don't seem to fit into any one of those categories...

All our local FFL's are inundated with transfers that some have had to either raise their prices or stop accepting them to catch up. Our biggest one is 2 weeks behind!!

Yeah it seems they are making most of their money off of transfers and repairs because they sure aren't having any luck stocking guns or ammo. They use a log book though so one would think: log it in, call the customer, ???, profit. :nono: No worries though, I usually know when my stuff is coming in. Last time they misplaced the three guns I ordered so I'll be glad to find a new FFL once I move.
Here are the lowers. I still need to clean them up a bit and am deciding if I want to send them off for Cerakote.
Thanks for the heads up on the handguard but I think I'm leaning toward quad rails again.

RRA, PSA 10.5" MI rail, Vortex 1-4x24 PST and AAC 762-SDN-6.
I did not take the pic (my skills suk). The shop that did the work took the pic.
I've owned this gun for 5-6 yrs and its taken many variations but I think its gonna stay like this for a long time.

Sweet looking SBR Hulley! I like how you didn't go all brown and kept some black elements in there. How's the Cerokote holding up on the mags?
Thanks! TBH the mags arent mine. I have a couple pics with black Magpul mags and I like those a little better. However I am gonna have them do some of my GI mags to match. I had only the upper/lower/rail cerakoted and intentionally left the rest black for a nice contrast. As far as holding up, I just had this done a few weeks ago and only shot it a few times, so far so good. The Cerakote definitly leaves a nice feel seeing as its not porous like the standard anodizing and looks cleaner i.e. no oil prints all over gun.
New to the forum and got sent a link to the thread. I haven't read any of the previous comments but I shoot long distance and shotguns. Plenty of Coyotes to shoot around my area as well as hunting in the desert. Most of my shooting is done on the ranch anywhere from 0 to 1200 yards. I also reload my own ammo if anyone is interested in that. Not really into pistols although I do have a couple. Here's my list.

My next purchase is a Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry II and then a reasonable shotgun that could double as both home defense and shoot clays.

I got my PF-9 back from being Cerakoted. I had the slide and barrel done in Stainless. I think it turned out pretty good! I wanted him to do the trigger too but I think he forgot. I'll see if he can do it with the next few items I send in. He also did a few of the screws and the mag release so I can't complain.
