what did you use to do that with? I've wanted to make my sights white because the red just doesnt show and I find myself looking for them. Paint pen?

I got my PF-9 back from being Cerakoted. I had the slide and barrel done in Stainless. I think it turned out pretty good! I wanted him to do the trigger too but I think he forgot. I'll see if he can do it with the next few items I send in. He also did a few of the screws and the mag release so I can't complain.

Looks good. After having my AR Cerakoted I find myself wanting to do a few others. I really like the finish and "feel" of cerakote, nice and smooth without being glossy. I have an old Sig P225 that I want "restored" and am planning on Cerakoting it as well. My P225 doesnt need it but it looks like hell, I've had it forever and have shot 1000s of rounds through it.

I was wondering the same thing. I've heard of some people using pain pens, the little acrylic bottles and a toothpick, or even crayons but have not tried any of that myself yet.

Agreed... I keep looking for new things to Cerakote now. I may need to learn to do it myself at this rate. I plan to get some pieces of the ARs done. I'd really like to get my PT-92 done - I hate the oily looking chrome plating they use at the factory. If I get my hands on a Raging Judge at a decent price I may do something wild with it, like Fire Engine Red. I like having it as an option though.. makes me more willing to consider used guns with some minor finish wear.

XD sights come white. i did the engraving with nail polish. i did my sights red and hated it so i used a q-tip and wiped it off with some paint thiner.

yeah, I was just asking about the engraving being painted (which looks nice) and figured I'd apply it to my sights. like you said, red sucks. well... hi point is red.

I would give up all my guns for an officer's acp (the compact 1911...? 1991a1 in other words) in stainless with rubber grips. must find picture.

edit:yeah here we go. mmm yeah baby. lol

edit again: "all my guns" wouldn't even come close to paying for one of these

Alright fellas, let's talk optics/sights. Both uppers I ordered will come as flat tops with a fixed front sight.

Part of me is thinking I should keep it simple and just go with a rear sight. But then I'm conflicted... Magpul BUS? A nice fixed sight (Troy)? Carry handle? Another folding rear sight?

Then I considered optics. I have a scope on the MP 15-22 and that's quite a bit of fun, but they no longer make that scope (it wasn't expensive anyway), and I plan to leave that on the 22.

At the same time, I'm building two, so any cost is doubly painful. So I'm thinking maybe get MBUS for both and a red dot for one and scope for the other? Any experience with cheaper optics and/or the rear sights mentioned? Cost is important for now. I just want to get them up and running and I can plow money into them down the road.

Get a red dot. You can decide whether aimpoint or eotec, but a red dot is soooo much faster than iron sights.

Thanks bofa! I've had a Trijicon Reflex sight and a GG&G BUIS on my Colt AR for years. Been real happy with the Reflex sight. Since its powered by tritium and fiber optics they're no batteries to worry about. I'm sure the tritium isn't as strong as it used to be 13-14 years ago but I have no problems seeing the amber dot in the daylight. If you don't need precision accuracy and favor quick acquisition at close to intermediate range, go for a 1X dot sight. I've also used an eotech dot sight with a 4x magnifier and really liked it.

Yep, took those pics myself. Shooting a Canon 5D MkIII. Since I'm not a pro and still learning the camera, I do a lot of experimenting with lighting, shutter speeds and aperture settings. For example, that last pic with the 1911 and pocket watch took 20 shots before I found one I was happy with. Thanks to digital photography it doesn't cost any extra to burn through the "ammo." Back in the old days, that woulda been a lot of film!

Well, I like what you did with the photos and especially the lighting. how do you isolate just the objects?

Yeah the 1911 looks like perfection. In my eyes the 1911 is one of the most beautiful handguns ever, that and stainless revolvers.

My eyes! I've been reading reviews off and on for the past few hours, and this isn't my first time doing so. Optics planet, Midway, Amazon, AR15.com... what's killing me is I'm seeing a lot of people generally despising the cheap brands (UTG, Leepers, NCStar, Berska) but then they have an overwhelming number of good reviews. So I don't know if the few are being snobbish or if the majority are being overly optimistic. Anyone here used the aforementioned brands with good/bad results? I know not to expect high performance for the price, but I do want something that is somewhat accurate and reliable for casual use.

Get a red dot. You can decide whether aimpoint or eotec, but a red dot is soooo much faster than iron sights.

I'm going to second M1911 suggestion. As you are on a budget, I would stick to a folding rear sight for now and save up for either an Aimpoint or Eotech. I've run fixed, folding and carry handle rear sights and they all do the same thing. If you go with a carry handle or fixed sights, you'll have to remove it if you eventually run a magnified optic. Whereas the folding rear sight can still be retained. I have both Magpul and Troy rear sight now and I would recommend either of them.

Battery life on the full size Eotech is around 600 hours where the Aimpoint is at 50,000 hours or 5.7 years (micro). Then you have tritium, which in Dawg4Runner's case, is still going strong after 14 years. I normally have two spare batteries stored inside my aimpoint mount in sealed plastic so that equals approx 17 years, right? haha In comparison, my buddy's Primary Arms CompM4 clone will last a few days if left on.

The inexpensive brands may work for the occasional trip to the range if that is your intended use. But if you plan to run your AR's hard in a class or any type of dynamic drills, it may not hold up and retain zero.

Here is my dedicated AR-22 SBR with a SilencerCo Sparrow. I have a Berska red-dot on it. The Berska didnt seem to hold zero that well when on the 5.56 but does a great job on the .22lr. this thing is crazy fun to shoot! OAL is 24"

well... that officers acp I posted is nice, but the one I'm really talking about seems to be the Defender. It looks exactly like the 1991a1 so they must have changed it to that. THIS gun is on my absolute have to have list...
