Is it just me or have 1911 prices dropped drastically lately? Maybe stock is collecting dust due to the demand for smaller guns with higher cap mags? Or that makers like RIA are producing relatively high quality firearms? I've seen Rugers and Colts sub $600 in the past few days. Rems and Sigs in the $900 range and even a few Kimbers that low. Dang it I don't need another 1911... but these prices are hard to ignore.

I was directly across the street of the Safeway during that shooting, that shit was crazy. Later that night, cruised over to a buddies house to hang out while he was dropping a motor in a buggy he built and he just so happened to live 3 houses down from Jared Loughtner, that street was a mess of FBI, other assorted feds and persistent news crews. Interesting day.

I've been able to find 45 much easier than 9mm, 40, or 357sig. It's not cheap but seems to be easy to locate.

Yeah that's what I was accustomed to. The shop I've been using lately charges $35 a pop, which is still high imo. I only deal with it because of the convenience. Gander is even closer but there's no way in hell....
I really need to look into getting my FFL.

duracoat, or you can picl up an air brush kit and do non bake cerakote or bake cerakote, its pretty easy.

I've never painted any of my firearms but it seems many have gotten good results with Aervoe Paints and Coatings :: Industrial, Maintenance, and Construction Chemical Products :: Aervoe Industries Inc.

It's really a matter of how much you want to spend. Anything professional will be pretty pricey for a shotgun because it has a good amount of surface area and most people like to fully disassemble before coating.
Krylon Camo Spray Paint
Duracoat
Cerakote (this is about the same price as Dura but much better imo)
Hydrographics/Hydro-dipping
Polishing
Plating
Personally, a 500, I'd probably go the Krylon route. There are tons of vids on youtube that walk you through it. It's quite easy and will probably cost you $30 max with tape, 4 colors, and clear, plus it's fun to DIY.
Hydrographics are probably the next cheapest. You can buy DIY kits but there are places that to it for just slightly more than what the kit will cost you. This is probably in the $140-160 range.
Duracoat and Cerakote are somewhat similar in principle but Cerakote has been proven to be more durable, so Cerakote has stolen the show recently. I have a guy that does good work fairly cheap, but I'd probably expect to pay up to $200 for a 500. DIY kits are considerably cheaper though.
Polishing and Plating seem a little crazy for a shotgun, esp a 500 for hunting, so I assume you won't be going that route.
Another thing to consider is shipping if you go with a company that is not local, which because of certain restrictions, will cost you between $15-50 each way.
BTW, I saw you got a pistol grip. I had one too for years on my 500, the one with a top folding stock. Anyway I recently swapped it out for a birdshead grip. I haven't taken it out yet but it feels a whole lot better than the pistol grip.
And I can't wait for Magpul to come out with their forend for the 500!

You can buy Duracoat and do it yourself if you have a compressor and a little spray gun. I refinished an AK and a S&W 9mm slide with it and it turned out great!! Maybe spent like $50 total.
