It's fairly straightforward as long as you take your time and you have the right tools. The tools are an investment so if you don't plan on building more in the future or like swapping upper parts, the best route is either find someone local who has the tools/know how or wait for the PSA deals.

I don't have a saiga 223 conversion but I have shot a few saiga 7.62 conversions.
1. what exactly doesn't fit? When in doubt, modify the cheaper part aka the scope mount. If there is no way to make it fit, just sell the mount and find one that does work with your rifle.
2. As this is your first conversion/build, I would highly recommend finding someone who has done this before to guide you through it in person. I've seen this done both ways - hand drill/dremel and drill press methods. The right tools, patience and experience makes a world of difference in both looks and having a safe functioning weapon.

The scope mount doesn't fit. It was pretty cheap - 30 or 40 bucks, i'd post pics but my guns are at home since I can't have them on campus. It's really obnoxious and the thing had great reviews.
I'd love to find someone who has - know anyone in the northeast?
I have a hand drill and dremel but no press, it seems pretty straightforward from all the write ups.
How did the 7.62 conversions shoot? I really wanted the gun in 762 but I got a killer deal on this one in 223 and took it and I really like the 223. :50cal:
Sorry, I can't help you with a local contact....I'm sure you can find one on your local gun forums though.
It's definitely doable with those tools. Just take your time. The conversions I shot worked flawlessly.

I have 2 scope mounts for my saiga 223, one is a cheapo ebay (garbage) one that sits off center when I install it, the other is an actual factory side mount scope case that says made in Belarus on it. The Russian made one works great. I don't recommend the dust cover scope base, as they are not tight enough to be accurate. Ive found that with the Russian quick release side scope mount and red dot holo sight I can hit an 8 inch plate offhand at 100 yrds 99% of the time , taking only enough time to get a sight picture between shots. Its a nice set up for a defensive riifle.I also have the galil fore grip and the factory skeleton stock with the adjustable cheek pad. The conversion is easy, I wot be doing it but as long as you keep it 922r compliant its a cool conversion. I just think its fine the way it is, with the skeleton stock the whole feeling of the rifle is much better than with that stupid Tupperware crap it comes with.

keep an eye out i've been seeing the xps series for around $440 and the magnifier going for around the same price.... 1.2k for the kit is a bit steep unless i'm missing something.

I finally got it! Just shy of an 8 month wait. AAC 762-SDN-6 on my 10.5" AR done in Patriot Brown.
And for the Sig Fan above, my restored Sig P225. I just had all new springs and Trijicon night sights installed along with a fresh Cerkote job in Graphite Black. This was a well worn pistol and now my baby looks new again!
I also have a Sig P229 9mm that is my daily carry.

Thanks! I love it. I am saving up for a Sig Tactical 1911 as we speak. Ive never owned a 3k 1911 OR ANYTHING, BUT THE sIG LINE OF 1911's is hands down the best Ive owned in terms of 1911 models.
Yeah I've been wanting another 1911 and TBH your Sig is pretty much exactly what I want. Black with SS controls in a Commander size frame and I'd probably lean towards 9mm because I reload and have tons of it! But I could easily do another .45ACP.
