You are ahead of me then. How do you like the Apex?

I've been doing more appendix carry lately on our walks around the neighborhood but have never been overly fond of it. I need to try out another iwb or two and see if anything fits better. 3 o'clock just isn't working for me, but it is the most comfortable when sitting.

I'm really tempted to try a high cant owb sob holster... I have long arms for my height and I'm wondering if that will work better. I get annoyed with myself when I leave it in the car sometimes in the name of comfort.

I can't seem to find something that works while sitting. I certainly can't appendix carry while sitting.

I love the Apex kits!! with the AEK trigger and the Duty Carry kit, it gets rid of the gritty uptake, provides a clean/crisp 5lbs break, decreases over travel and provides a more pronounced reset - both tactile and audible.

As for how I carry, my fondness to be comfortable while sitting excludes appendix carrying. For shorter trips, I just leave it at 7, but if I plan to drive a longer distance, i'll rotate my iwb holster from 7 to 9. Like you, I have longer arms so I increase the cant so I can't leave it on my hip when I get out or else my draw stroke is wonky.

So all I have in my current armory is a Ruger 10/22 and a Remington 11-87 Police semi auto 12 Gauge. My next plan is to either pick up an AR or a pistol (probably 9mm) for conceal carry. What do you guys think I should pick up first?

On a side note, I don't have my conceal carry permit yet, but plan to have it soon.

It depends on the shooter and the budget. The M&P9C darkie posted is very comfortable to shoot and the changeable backstraps are great.

If you plan to carry, I'd go with the pistol over the AR. I think you should try out the various firearms in the same class to see what feels right. I tried out the Glock 26, Glock 19, M&P 9c and Shield. The benefits of both the Glock's and the M&P's compacts is that you are able to run a full sized 17 round mag as a backup. Personally, I just found the 9C more natural pointing when not using the sights. Not to say the Glock isn't a great firearm, but the way I draw from concealment, I can hit my target easier with the M&P.

Actually my second 22/45. I had one before with a Paclite upper and had nothing but problems. I wanted another one to use my Sparrow on so I figured I'd give it another try. I should have the mount this weekend and the auction ends thursday for the fastfire! I'm trying to keep from buying a new one!

Very cool!! I've shot a few 22 pistols with fastfire's on them and it's so much fun running steel plates with them. My 9c will eventually be wearing an RMR but that won't be until next year.

I've never used a MRD before so I'm pretty excited. I looked long and hard at the M&P 9 C.O.R.E that comes ready to accept a MRD, the only thing is that I had a 9c with a trigger job and for some reason we just didnt get along. I wish I hadnt sold it so quickly because it is a great size and felt good in my hand, but I couldnt hit the broad side of a barn. I bit if I just stuck it out and worked with it I'd be fine with it by now.

I tend to go low and right with that trigger, I'm too used to 1911s, but I otherwise love the ergonomics enough that I'm switching my compact and full size 1911s for their M&P counterparts. I'll just have to adjust to the trigger. It's no single action trigger, for sure.

It takes a few times to get used to it. If you press out like you are using the iron sights, you're able to pick up the red dot quickly. I couldn't find the dot just focusing on the small window at the beginning.

I'm coming from a PPQ, which has a great trigger out of the box and is a total tack driver. It's been a learning experience with the 9C. The more I shoot it, the smaller my groups get. I will admit, the Apex trigger has made a big difference. Not sure when you had the 9C but the newer production models have a faster twist to help with the accuracy of a wider spectrum of weights.

Take a look at the Apex FSS. Its the closest I know to a 1911 trigger you can find for the M&P. Almost no uptake, limited over travel and nice reset. IIRC, it comes with two springs to adjust the pull weight.

I had the 9c when they first came out, which was when the stock triggers were really crappy and the Apex offering was not as good as it is now, I had my smith do a trigger job and it came out to be 4lbs 4oz pull which made me a little uncomfortable at first. I'm used to DA/SA triggers and I like the heavy first pull. I'm sure that if I kept it as praticed I would have been fine. I do think I will get another one day, maybe even soon. Hell it was hard not getting the VTAC model! That thing is sweet!

Just got my 4runner and discovered that it likes to push my gun (around 3:30) into my back. The seats are quite a bit more snug around the sides than on my other car!

i use one of those cheap leather iwb holsters inside my door pocket, seems easier to get to while sitting in the truck as well and only cost me $15, needs to be right handed so the clip can grab the door.

I was always told to avoid searching for an intruder in the home but, obviously, we would want to protect our kids. Any advice or resources?

The guy that did our CWP class offered in-home analysis and training as well as basic self-defense training. I kept meaning to schedule it but never had the time either.

NRA has a partner that offers a dvd series. They have become the Amway of the gun world lately though so I kept the freebie and didn't buy the others. The first DVD was pretty good though.

Thanks fellas! I didn't even think of the NRA store :frusty: I would love to do some live training.....and we have some great facilities here in Tulsa. But with young kids at home, life is crazy. The DVDs will have to do for now.

We have the same problem. Occasionally our dog alerts us to things going on outside at 2AM so we've had some opportunity to work this out, sans Bad Guys. Depends on your kids, but ours know that if that happens something bad is going on. We've tried to train them to stay in the room but it seems they always want to come to us. If I hear the dog barking at oh dark thirty I now grab my main carry gun out of my nearby lockbox as fast as I can and go to the hallway to cover them while they come across. We've also discussed having one of us go retrieve the kids to the master BR while the other calls 911 and stays in the room. We've devised a code phrase that means it's OK to let the other one back in but would not be apparent under duress.

We have multiple exits from the master BR and the kids' room, so theoretically we could hole up in either, but the master BR is preferable for a number of reasons.

Think this through and how it would apply in your case. Think about where you can get out, where you can get hard cover, where you have access to communication to the outside world, and backup options. Make sure your kids understand (to the extent possible) that they absolutely need to follow all of your instructions and stay quiet in such a scenario. If your wife is comfortable with it, make sure she's handy with at least one home defense weapon, whether it's a gun or a baseball bat, and that it'll be available wherever you plan to hole up. If one of you is out and the other is in, make sure you know and practice how to avoid pointing the guns at each other when moving around.

As others have mentioned, the NRA's personal defense in the home class is a good starting point for this kind of thinking.

Finally, if you want to test how things might go down, get a friend with an airsoft gun (and eye protection for all) or a laser tag gun or something and have them pretend to be the 'bad guy'. That can be highly educational.

Got the Burris FastFire II installed over the weekend. It took a little getting used too. When I would naturally hold the gun I could not see the dot, I had to point the barrel down which meant that I was holding high, duh. But once I got it sighted in I had some decent groups at 25yds. My 22/45 still has the stock trigger and its kinda funny how much my hands shake when holding trying to shoot a tight group. The dot was shaking quite a bit. Trigger job will be next.

My wife gave me a new Del-ton inc DT sport AR-15 5.56 flat top, with eotech 556 red dot sight all OD green magpul plastics and mbus magpul back up front and rear pop up sights. With upgraded gas system to raise the height of the front sight to match the rear.
