It's up to you. I am a believer in covered triggers when the gun is concealed.

I think the possibility of snagging is too great. Or bunched up shirt getting into the trigger.

If I carried in that contraption it would be in condition 3.

but, I was talking about using it on the console to hold it in the vehicle. not on my side.
although, I would use it as a holster, but I don't like the idea of the gun directly against my skin.

It doesn't seem secure enough for a moving vehicle, imo. There's very little retention.

The only way I would use this or something similar (I've had my eye on a similar product) would be to mount it to a hidden location in the house. I couldn't trust it in a vehicle or on me.

yes, I was thinking the same thing. without your body on the inside to support it, it might not work so well.

If you want to mount it look at blade tech.

They already have holes for any mounting and retention and be adjusted.

the biggest reason I was considering the versa-carry, is that its cheap, and I was going to have to hack it a bit. id rather not start cutting/drilling an expensive holster.

why? once its out of A holster, the trigger is exposed. if it just sitting there, there is no danger of the trigger being pulled accidentally.

My concern isn't when it is out of the holster. My concern is when it is in the holster, while holstering, and while drawing.

The purpose of a holster is two-fold: 1) to securely hold the firearm and 2) to protect the trigger guard so that the trigger isn't accidentally pulled. The only way to achieve 2) is for the holster to cover both sides of the trigger guard.

You can probably use industrialVelcro to located the holster.

At least until you find a permanent location.

Or heavy duty 3m double sided tape. We that at work for holding down work bench surfaces. OT takes a lot to get it to move. Aftermarket companies use it to hold down spoilers and body components.

Just some ideas if you know want to drill right away. I know I hate drilling expensive plastic.

$1800 for a 16.5" FDE.

I checked the GAG site and they were out of stock. The only 16.5" they have is left-hand.

GAG has them for $1750 right now.

yes, I had thought about the 3M tape.
im not particularly fond of drilling holes in my console either.

I would just need a holster with a flat surface, with enough area to hold the weight.

I have, yes, but thanks. it looks a bit bulky, im not sure I would like it there. im sure I would smack my knee on it each time getting in.


this whole thing started as more of a passing thought. each time I drive with my shoulder harness, the pistol presses into the seat, and I can feel it. it got to thinking I could mount something on the left side of the console, to hold it while im driving.

its not a big deal if I don't come up with something, ive been using it as is for a while, its not a major problem. I just thought, WHAT IF.

I thought this at first as well but I've never hit it and I'm 6'1". That said, it isn't a perfect solution by any stretch of the imagination as it moves around slightly while holstering and unholstering. It does serve its purpose though. If you image search for auto holsters, you'll find hundreds of photos people have come up with that could give you more ideas - just a thought.

Oh yeah, not sure if anyone else has been eagerly awaiting Magpul's release of the Mossberg 500 forend, but they did a few weeks ago. Primary Arms has them in stock for $25.

I can tell you that the shroud is really tall on the Remington model and it flexes, so it rubs the finish off of the barrel. Also, there's not a lot of room between the rail mount slots and the barrel or the magazine tube, so your mounting options are limited as to what you can put on the thing.

It is pretty ergo, tho, and I can rack and fire the gun almost as fast as a semi.

It's an 870 Express with an entire police overhaul:

replace trigger plate assembly with metal police model
police breech bolt assy
tree dot Tritium barrel
Magpul foreend and stock (with riser)
Wilson follower

Thanks for the heads up. I'm okay with finish wear and don't have any accessories planned at the moment. I'm just looking for a bit more grip to help compensate for the birdshead I have on it and better racking like you mentioned. This is solely a SD setup.

I think future plans are a decent flashlight, aggressive breech, and maybe cut it down to NFA minimum. I'm may go with a different shotgun before I put all that into it though.

I have a Shockwave tech raptor grip for the 870 which I used to have on it when I lived in a smaller house.

There aren't too many sellers of birshead grips, theirs is the only one that doesn't look like a hack job.
