I have a Shockwave tech raptor grip for the 870 which I used to have on it when I lived in a smaller house.

There aren't too many sellers of birshead grips, theirs is the only one that doesn't look like a hack job.

Totally agree... it was the only reasonable option I could find, short of getting a custom wood one made, which I thought would look funny on a 500 with a poly forend.

Since we're posting shotguns. My Mossberg 500. I swapped the trigger pack for the 590A1 model, it has a 590A1 safety, Choate orange mag follower, Hogue stock and fore end. I have this 18.5" barrel as well as a 28" vent rib barrel. Been thinking about getting it Cerakoated or Parkerized as the standard bluing is showing it's age. It works for it's intended purpose, but I'm not a big shotgun guy.

The 590A1 uses a steel trigger housing and aluminum safety. Required for the military to adopt the gun. The standard 500 and 590 use plastic parts there. These plastic parts have been reported to fail under hard use. Specifically the safety.

Basically I made a hybrid 590A1/500 that allowed for the quick change barrel system of the 500, but gives the durability of the A1 model. It takes about 30 seconds to swap barrels and requires no tools.

All in, that is about a $600 shotgun with both barrels. It started off as a $275 commercial gun that is sold at many sporting goods stores.

I'm not a fan of SIG 1911s. The nonstandard slide cut significantly reduces the number of holsters they will fit. If you want a 1911, get a real 1911. I'm also not a big fan of Series 80 style 1911s.

it is still a 1911 with a couple changes. The slide not being milled completely is sigs take on it and you can still find tons of holsters forthem. I will however agree with the 70/80's series. I would much rather it be a 70.

If you are looking for a 1911, you can do much better than a Sig considering what they ask for them.

And while I might catch some flack from 1911 purists, I still say the Colt 01991 is the best deal going for a quality 1911 that functions out of the box.

One of these days I will end up with a Wilson CQB. Probably after I'm done collecting all the HK's I want.

The sig does have a bit of a price tag on it. I just payed 12 for the spartan. But I'm comfortable with that for what I'm getting.
The best quality 1911 for the price I will have to say is the springfeild range officer. My brother got his for 9 after Kali taxes and such and your getting a high end pistol for bottom barrel price.


I don't want to talk to you anymore. H&k p30 is what I want and have wanted for the last 3 years but not a single person in kalifornia has one for sale to civilians.

Look up a shop that will do a single shot exemption for you. That is how you get around buying a pistol that is not on the safe handgun roster.

I only have experience with 2 Springfield 1911s, and I'm just not impressed. Mine was a lower priced Springfield that came with their cheaper two-piece barrel. That barrel was a complete POS. I had to have it replaced with a real barrel before it would group at all.

A friend of mine purchased a basic Springfield 1911 and sent it into their custom shop to have some work done. They did a beautiful melt job. The gun was really, really pretty. But when I pressed down on the barrel hood, there was a huge amount of movement and the gun wouldn't group at all. It never should have gotten out of the factory that way, let alone their custom shop.

Look up the RO its hand made on the custom line just like the trp and all the high end springfields. Just the price isn't up there



Edit: and this is also why I chose the sig over the Springfield.

I tell people who are looking at 1911's to include 500-1000 rounds for break in. Some is have shot broke in really quick and others - even high end ones took hundreds of rounds to loosen the frame up.

Personally I am not a huge 1911 fan--but if I bought one it would be from STI. Or SVI

A good friend of mine just bought the exact same guns! External safety for his wife and none for him.
