I went and picked up my new pistol tonight. I went with the P30 because I felt that the grips were a bit more ergonomic and it came with extra back and side straps to make it mold perfectly to my hands. Ultimately it was the feel of the pistol that made me get the HK. The grip on it really feels absolutely perfect in my hands. The reviews on both pistols were awesome so I knew that either way I went wouldn't be wrong.
Here's the beauty that's replacing the XD9 on my night stand.
Nice choice. Here is a good place to get mags if for whatever reason HK USA doesn't have them. They are $2 more, but the shipping was cheaper and faster. I have bought from this guy many times as he is also a BCM distributor and he has some great deals.

They don't allow anonymous email accounts, so you are gonna have to use an ISP or business email to register. It's a way for them to cut down on spammers and burner accounts.

That sucks, I'm using the Hogue fore end on mine, but no heat shield. I like it a lot. I want to get another 500 and put a Surefire fore end on it.

Yeah, if you can get an @verizon account that will work. You can also probably still make a free AOL account and that should work as well.

My FN FNX-45 Tactical in FDE. My favorite handgun by far.
Now that sir, is a nice pistol! Its one of the few pistols out right now that I would care to own. I got to fire a few rounds in one and fell in love with it. Its the only pistol i have ever found that comes close to my CZs as far as feeling like an extension of my hand. Accuracy is instinctual with the things.
As for the HK, Sig question above, glad you got a pistol you like! I really like Sigs, not so much HK. I love the feel of European pistols, but the Sig just looks like it shouldn't be as accurate as it is for me. It looks so top heavy in my hand, but boy I love to shoot em! They work, every time, and are dead-nuts accurate for me. That big "top heavy" slide works wonders in a panic/stress situation and their controls are where they are meant to be. I cannot say enough good things about most of them!
HK on the other hand.......well, like the saying goes "HK is german for "you paid too much". They do make good guns for the most part, don't get me wrong. I think they are the most innovative company out there, and we owe much of our modern technology to them, but therein lies the problem. The cutting edge is usually not the most reliable, or the most applicable for most situations. They make their guns so technically, so "cutting edge", that, to me, they lose their soul. It's like whittling with a surgeon's scalpel. Will it work? Certainly, but I wouldn't enjoy it as much. We have had a few in the armory when I worked for SOCOM. They are definitely NOT more reliable than any other weapon. We had our problems with them just as we did with pretty much every other make of gun. The difference is, they are such a PITA to deal with! They are a pain to work on, and even more of a pain to have to deal with their customer service. I think the Germans, in general, need to come off their "elitist" attitudes when it comes to their weapons. They are all overpriced for what you get, and not any "better" than several other makes in my opinion.
I have heard good things about the P30, however, and have handled it a few times. It does seem like an excellent pistol.
I'm headed to the range this weekend so I'll get to shoot the P30 for the first time. I'll throw about 500 rounds through it to really get a good feel for it.
There is no such thing as a perfect pistol but I felt that the grips on the P30 were the cats meow so it won my vote. Eventually I'll get the sig because it's just a sweet pistol as well.
I'm sure that the sig is just as reliable. Heck, I have a XD9 that cost half of what the HK cost and I'll put it right up there with anything else for reliability. As far as working on them, I'm not getting involved with pressing pins and messing with the springs. If anything crazy needs to be done then my firearms go to the pro's. I'll take them apart and clean them and maybe a touch more for deep cleaning but that's about it.

Years ago I screwed up a Ghost trigger install on a Glock (the ones you have to trim to fit, not the drop in). Ever since then, if I'm even remotely uncomfortable with a mod, it goes in for pro help.
There's your problem.
Just kidding, Glocks are good pistols just not my pistol of choice.

Agreed. I had an HK USPc .40 (sold that). I still have an HK USPc .45, but it is a safe queen. On the plus side, they were both reliable, accurate, had decent sights, and the slide stop was both generously sized and properly located. The safety even works in the proper direction as well.
On the downside, the USPc slide is frickin' huge. It is just ridiculously bulky. I'm not a fan of the magazine release -- it is too far forward to reach with my thumb and the spring is too stiff. Yes, I can release it with my trigger finger, but I'm not a fan of using my trigger finger to push a lever that close to the trigger. The SA trigger on the USPc is OK. Not great, but OK. The DA trigger, however, is simply horrendous. It takes two men and a come-along to pull, and stacks like crazy. I have competed in IDPA using a S&W revolver, so I am comfortable with long DA triggers, but the USPc DA trigger is the worst that I've ever used.
To add to the HK misery, the cost of a magazine is ridiculous and getting parts out of them was nigh impossible (rumor has it customer service has improved, but I have no direct experience in the past 10 years). My USPc needed a new mainspring. They wouldn't sell my gunsmith the part unless he became an HK dealer and ordered $10k in inventory. I was able to get the part, but only after multiple calls and several weeks of waiting.
Of course, being the hater that I am, I just have to post this picture in most every thread about HK:

Range toy/plinking and conceal carry.
I know, seems absurd to practically conceal a full size 1911 given the many choices. But I love 1911's, they're far more reliable than people give credit, and I can conceal it no problem.
I've got 7 1911s and 3 Glocks. These days I'm carrying my Glock 23. A Gen 4 Glock 19 was my latest purchase. I've done the 25-cent trigger job on it, added 10-8 sights, and grip tape. The plastic stock Glock sights are just horrid. I haven't had a chance to shoot it since I've done that work. Maybe this weekend.
My answer to the question "should I buy this gun or that gun" is always the same: "Yes."

If any of you are in TX, I'm looking for a Glock 19, any gen, for the wife. She just let me sell her carry gun (kahr p380) and I'd like to get her a g19 to replace it. I have a brand new, unfired AR I'm trying to trade for one. Anybody have one they want to get rid of? I have an FFL and would love to take it off your hands.

I did have a case failure, and it broke the extractor and lost the spring.
after talking to HK directly, I was able to just send in the broken pieces, and a note describing what happened, as opposed to sending them the entire pistol. which I wasn't OK doing.
it did however take them like 3 months to get my parts back to me. I had to call several times. they warranteed it, it just took forever.
