Mine is the goose gun! 52" barrel and 12 gauge. It really is a pre 1100 made by Montgomery Ward, but they have the same parts. This gun was made in the '50s. Of all of mine, I love the 1100 and my XDm the best with my 10-22 right behind. The SKS I got for free from a friend that got in trouble with the law, and now can't own them. It is fun to shoot, but I would rather have a Winchester Model 94, or an AR. Both are my next to buy.

IIRC Armscor does the forgings but STI hand fits the slide. I have the Trojan in 9mm and it is a total blast to shoot. I have a few upgrades from Dawson Precision (he used to be STI armorer) great stuff and service. Fit & finish is spectacular. Waaaaay better than my Kimber's.

I think if it's allowing corrosion I would refinish. If its not, leave it as it. I love an old gun with character.
:suspicious: There's a lot to say about Kimbers, but fit and finish has never been one of them, imo.
Leave it as is. A worn gun is a gun that has been used and loved.

So Springfield Armory is coming out with exactly the 1911 I want, minus the sights. It's called the Range Officer 9mm. This plus some Hogue Piranha grips and 10-8 sights with a fiber optic front and I'm in business. MSRP is $1k, and I'm seeing online prices already in the $800 area, but not in stock.
I think this is gonna be a much better choice than a RIA Tactical or STI Spartan.

There are a few others as well like Harrison that make similar designs. 10-8 is also working on a 1 piece fixed rear.
This guy used a Dawson front with a Harrison rear. I like this setup a lot too.

Exact one I just bought. Can't wait to take it to the range. Also have these Sambar Stag grips coming in from Hungary. Gonna look great on it!

I'm in the process of filing for my CCW when I move to VA in May (I want to get the permit asap) and that means Ill need a gun to go with it. I have a few long guns but I have never owned a pistol, though I have shot several. For a full frame, I am thinking of getting a Taurus PT92 9mm and I would like a 9mm as well for a carry gun and I have a 9mm plinker rifle that's a lot of fun - 3 guns that take the same ammo would be sweet. I'm kind of clueless as to the smaller CC pistols as I've only shot a few over the years since I never really thought of buying one (It's pretty much outlawed in my home state of NJ where I am still a resident) so any advice is welcome

Honestly, I would stay away from Taurus unless thats just want you really want. Save your money and get something tried and true. A glock 19 will last forever and never give you problems.

I have the PT 92 - great gun, very accurate and balanced, and it shoots anything I feed it. In fact, I usually set aside my FTF rounds from other guns and it fires them every time. I've never had a problem with it and done nothing to it but clean it. Scroll a few pages back and we talked a bit more about them, but basically the PT-92 is is a licensed reproduction of the Beretta and is made with Beretta machinery set up in a factory by Beretta.
For smaller 9mm you have to figure out if you want to go compact or pocket size. For compact a Glock 26 or M&P9C are great choices. I've owned both and have the M&P compact in a 357 Sigma for my CC and have been very happy with it. If you want a pocket pistol, I'd probably look into Kahr.
One of my favorite 9mm's was my Springfield EMP 9. It was a sub compact design of a 1911 chambered in 9mm. It was extremely accurate but they are a little hard to find right now for some reason. When they are for sale, people think they're made of gold.

Yeah, I wanted the beretta 92fs but the price tag is a bit hard to swallow, though I like the location of the safety better. I may have been in that conversation a while back.
Funny you mention Kahr, my GF's dad has a kahr and loves it. I'm just not familiar with how carrying feels. I'll be working in DC where I won't be able to carry, but around VA and where I'll be living I intend on carrying frequently. I saw the glock 26 and it looks pretty sweet, the M&P looks similar.

The Kahrs are very similar to the Kel-tec but Kel-tec has has some quality and availability issues lately. I have a brand new PF-9 that can't empty a mag without jamming and I just haven't had the time to deal with it. What's interesting is that a lot of people end up upgrading the Kel-tec springs and trigger which makes it more like the Kahr... so why not just go with the Kahr in the first place? As far as carry, you can get a number of pocket holsters or tuckable IWB holsters and they are super easy to conceal. The smaller pistols are excellent for warmer climates where concealing is more of a challenge and layering just isn't reasonable. You can easily carry in board shorts and a t-shirt.
If you are going to be traveling back and forth between areas you can and can't conceal, I would get one of those locking console boxes or for much cheaper you can buy the small lock boxes that fit under your seat and are attached to the frame of your seat. I like the latter too because I can use it when I fly and want to bring my CC with me.
