The Kahrs are very similar to the Kel-tec but Kel-tec has has some quality and availability issues lately. I have a brand new PF-9 that can't empty a mag without jamming and I just haven't had the time to deal with it. What's interesting is that a lot of people end up upgrading the Kel-tec springs and trigger which makes it more like the Kahr... so why not just go with the Kahr in the first place? As far as carry, you can get a number of pocket holsters or tuckable IWB holsters and they are super easy to conceal. The smaller pistols are excellent for warmer climates where concealing is more of a challenge and layering just isn't reasonable. You can easily carry in board shorts and a t-shirt.

If you are going to be traveling back and forth between areas you can and can't conceal, I would get one of those locking console boxes or for much cheaper you can buy the small lock boxes that fit under your seat and are attached to the frame of your seat. I like the latter too because I can use it when I fly and want to bring my CC with me.

Being able to be comfortable and carry is key. DC gets hot as hell in the summers and it's humid too.

Problem is, I should have specified, but not only can I not carry in DC, but I can't have a pistol unless i am transporting it directly to a range and if I cannot prove that I risk a year in jail, all based on officer discretion, AKA not going ot be bringing a gun with me into DC at all.

I wouldn't recommend one over say a Glock or M&P, but if you're dead set pick up a used Beretta 92 or M9 instead. I got mine for $500. Cool looking gun but I don't really like shooting it. It's a brick and has a stupid safety decocker location. Mags are dirt cheap and everywhere though.

For a carry gun look into a S&W Shield.

That's what I figured I wanted to get the Beretta but like I said above I liked the safety on the Taurus and the price tag, but good point, I never really think about buying used guns since we don't really have them where I'm from. The "used" section in my gun store is always 10% off and there's usually like 5 long guns, but that Will be different in VA. I love the look of the Taurus/beretta and it's more of a bling factor than anything, though I do enjoy shooting them both. I really like the glock 26 the more I read about it.

Check out VA Gun Trader - Buy, Sell and Trade Guns for Free! when you get into town, I've bought and sold stuff on there with good results. Also, you will need to be a resident of VA for 30 days prior to buying a firearm at an FFL, or getting a carry permit. So take the class, and once you have been here for 30 days hand over the paperwork to the county clerk. As long as you are not a prohibited person, you will have your permit within 45 days max.

Where in VA are you moving? I'm in NOVA and it's pretty decent here. I also know where all the good and not so good shops are in the area, so if you have any questions feel free to ask away.

Good public ranges are another matter. I'd suggest becoming a member of a private range if you care to shoot rifles past 100 yards.

Yep, vaguntrader is awesome. I was a member on there and know a lot of the guys there personally. Absolutely hated VA tho! Nova is the lesser of 2 evils, but I'd stay away from the entire state unless I could live in the far west side (near TN). VA is the biggest ghetto I have ever lived in and I will never be back. Yes, there are a few nice areas, but everywhere else is a shit hole.

I've been there camping and 4 wheeling before. Never shot on their range, but last time I was there I heard a machine gun. Next trip up there I plan on doing some shooting.

I have a contact in Inwood who shoots EVERYTHING there. Including a 30 Milometer Chain Gun. In other words - if you own it legally - you can shoot it there.

I saw a link to that round the other day. It kind of got me to thinking a little bit about HP ammo. With what's already on the market and the fact that one single HP round can penetrate and spread, it is already deadly and can/will kill someone depending on where you're shot. It really made me wonder if anything more deadly is really necessary to spend more money on? I mean, it's not like bullet A will make you any more dead than bullet B.

It seems their intent is to create a better initial penetration and a more consistent spread pattern afterwards. Having a HP not expand properly might not have the intended effects.

I wondered about the penetration too. As for the spread though, there will always be variations for each shot depending on what the round is going through. I use the Hornady critical defense rounds. They have a rubber type filling so the rounds don't get clogged with clothes and prevent spreading upon impact.

Maybe if they used the same thing in the RIP rounds then that would give them good results?

There have been a few different attempts at this over the years... the filling you mention, the talons, and even adding a small ball to promote penetration and expansion. I use rounds from Double Tap currently.

From what I gathered, the hardness and shape of the tips are supposed to help with deformity, but like you said, most videos have been single shot and into simple things like balloons and ballistic gel. Wrap a t-shirt, flannel layer, and jean jacket and then I'd like to see them empty a mag into it.

I don't see myself buying any of those rounds. I am pretty confident that any HP that's on the market now will do the job just fine.

For all I know, they are excellent rounds. I just don't know that they will be any better than what's already out there.

As far as clothing penetration it's one of the main reasons I keep thinking about getting a FN Five-seveN. That round (5.7x28 SS197SR) will punch through body armor.
