I must be lucky because I've yet to have a FTF or FTE on my Kimber. That thing has been rock solid since day 1. The only thing I hate about them is the takedown - I've lost chunks of skin. I'll take the ol' barrel bushing style any day of the week.
I'm still trying to get ahold of one of those. That round is everything the 5.7 wished it could be!
As for the M4 issue, its funny that HK, LWRC, LMT and several other companies are still trying to accomplish what the Koreans accomplished years ago. The Daewoo K2/DR200 is a long piston AR style rifle that is dead nuts reliable. I own a DR200, (my only AR platform rifle now) and it is the best of both worlds as far as AR/AK goes. If the AK, FAL, and AR had a threesome, the daewoo would be the result!

ive heard the same thing, maybe 2-3 years ago.
some guy spent like $2k on his kimber. it didn't work right out of the box. sent it back in, spent another $1k or so to "fix" it.
still no good. he ended up trading it in on something else. he got like $900 trade in. he didn't care, he just didn't want the POS anymore.

Let me save you from more lost chunks of skin. I purchased one of these from NDZ Performance, and trust me - it's a hell of a lot easier breaking down my Kimber now. Beats using a paper clip, or Kimber's stupid take down tool (paper clip).

I just took this class and will file my VA CCW for out of state residents later this week.
The class was a joke, it should NOT count. There should be a mandated class with range time and a good instructor, not a 20 min video and a 20 question test that a child could pass.

if it makes you feel any better about that class, we aren't required to take anything here.
just pass the background check, and pay the fee.

I agree with VA making you demonstrate some type of competency with a firearm before you are allowed to carry one. I only have to do it once. This is clearly a money maker...

Pull slide back, lock to expose pin hole, insert staking pin (disassembly tool). Close slide to capture pin with guide rod plug.
Grab gun with left hand, hooking thumb around trigger guard, use this to leverage as you use your right hand to move slide to disassembly stop, use right hand index finger to pop out slide stop.
Cup your left hand under the dust cover as you take slide off (nothing should happen, but it's best not to launch a guide rod across the room/into your eye if staking pin falls out).
If you don't have a staking pin, you can just do the above while carefully catching the recoil spring assy/guide rod when you take the slide off. It MAY buckle so you have to be careful.
I've disassembled just about every 1911, and gimmicky tools just slow things down. It helps to have big hands.

You have to admit though that it's kind of odd to need a paper clip to field strip a $1200 gun.
Doing it your way without the pin is when I got the fat part of my index finger pinched. I lost my grip on the slide, it ripped forward and skin got caught between the slide and barrel. :shocked:

The paper clip/staking pin/etc is unfortunately a side effect of the bull barrel and reverse plug (and the full length one piece guide rod that usually comes with). 1911s weren't designed that way, so the extra steps needed to deal with the bull barrel are a necessary evil.
As for shredding your finger, I have cuts and scars on my thumbs and index fingers, and the skin is several times thicker on those fingers due to 1911 disassembly accidents, so I can sympathize.:thumb:
