Keep in mind that these AR platforms were designed around military use. Most M-4's and M-16's are used in a dirty environment where a dust cover is important to keep debris out and help prevent jams. For the average person a dust cover may not be necessary since their rifles see maybe 100-500 rounds a month at a range and is cleaned right after. Most times at the range there isn't a whole lot of dust, dirt or debris flying around to worry about.

Edit: The forward assist in my mind is a useless part. I have used the M-16's and M-4's in just about every variant that they come in through the military. I have rarely had any jams and the jams that I have had were easily cleared. The military teaches you a method called S.P.O.R.T.S. to clear a jam. Slap the mag up to make sure it's seated. Pull the charging handle back. Observe that a round or shell comes out of the ejection port. Release the charging handle. Tap the forward assist to ensure the bolt is fully seated. Squeeze the trigger to continue firing. Any time I clear a jam I do those steps but skip the forward assist part. I have never once used the forward assist in the tens of thousands of rounds I have put through an M-4 and have never had any issues with not using it.

I've always heard this same procedure referred to as "Tap, rack, bang." Appreciate the good info.

I like the idea, but I'm always overtightening the crap out of them to mitigate drifting off target.

Finally finished with the trigger job. Had some scope issues, here's the final product in its mount.

I think I played around with the position of the scope before I dialed everything in.

I found another sig spartan at a local gun shop. Hopefully I can go pick it up today. I also will get a free .22 1911 as a part of sig's buy one get one free deal since this dealer is participating in the promotion.

Apparently sig isn't making these spartan 1911's anymore so if anyone is interested in one you may want to jump on the opportunity.

In the near future I'll start building an ar10 to match my pair of sig Spartans! Can't wait for that build!

Normally I would agree but this is a sweet sexy pistol that's a limited run. I love the theme of it and would love to have twins of it... Then a matching ar10 or ar15 to boot in the near future. Plus I'll get a free .22 1911 with sigs promotional deal.

I'm with you, i love my SIG 1911's, i have dual C3's along with a few other SIG's...the Springfield's are nice but something about the tight tolerances in the SIGs do it for me.

The scope mount finally arrived so now the S&B's on top of the LaRue PredatOBR. Changed some items and added an Atlas bipod, monopod and Troy FDE folding iron sights.. I swapped out the R.A.T. stock for a UBR stock and changed the grip and panels from black to FDE. Also changed to a Battle Arms 45 degree ambi safety and Raptor charging handle.

Speaking of 1911's I picked up a set of Magpul grips for one the other day. I don't have one yet, but I'm looking to change that soon.

I love mine. I have run over 3k rounds of reloads thru it. Since its a 1911 you can tune it for whatever ammo you're using and the trigger is awesome since there's no FP block.

The only downside is that it's not made as well as some of the more expensive SA guns.

I'm not very knowledgeable on 1911's, what are some of the corners they cut with the RO models?

I wish they made the TRP in 9mm, and I also wish Colt still made 9mm 1911's. I would love a series 70 Colt Government model with Novak sights in 9mm.

I really want a Wilson CQB 9mm, but that is out of my price range for a while.

I like the idea of QD scope mounts too. It's nice having the option of quickly removing the optic for cleaning, transporting or swapping. Although I don't swap much it's nice to have the option. Stick with a reputable brand and you shouldn't have any problems with returning to zero. I have several Larue QD mounts that I've detached and reattached numerous times without any zero shift. I make sure to push the mount as far forward on the rail as possible before tightening the levers. I keep the levers snug but not overly tight.

There are so many brands out there that offer QD mounts but I can only speak for LaRue, ARMS and soon GDI. I have one ARMS mount and it came built onto the Elcan Spectre DR 1-6 scope on my Scar 17s. I haven't seen any noticeable zero shift but the mount and levers just seem cheap and weak. A real shame for being attached to such an outstanding optic. Not sure what Raytheon/Elcan was thinking when they chose the ARMS mount. Must be low bid. LaRue makes a great QD mount and has a very good reputation for holding zero. I have five Larue QD mounts and will continue buying them as the need dictates. The GDI mount is just crazy nice. Everyone I've talked to that has one has raved about it. From the machine work to the weight to the finish. Just looking at it and holding it leaves not doubt that it's a quality piece of gear. I'll report back on the zero shift test.

Took the 7.5" Adams Arms upper to the range today - indoor range so I was punching paper. Have about 3,000 rounds through it and it is functioning flawlessly - has not had even 1 misfire, misfeed, or failure to eject at all since I've had it. All it needs is a set of iron sights - likely gonna take off the RDS I've got on it now.

Got a couple second looks from the guys on either side of me after the first couple shots. Suppose the noise and concussion from the blast was too much - they both left before I started on the second 30-round mag.

But Springfield finishes the guns off themselves so it's 100% reliable (save for the Metalform mags that were a bit spotty--I'm running Wilson 38 Super mags in mine).

Let me put it this way, all the blemishes on my gun are cosmetic.

Higher end Springers are much better built.

I have a Professional built by their custom shop--it's as nice as any semi-customs I have.

Thanks for the info. I can deal with some cosmetic issues, I plan on using it as a shooter and not a show piece. Regarding magazines, I have heard very good things about the Tripp, Wilson and Mec gar 9mm magazines.

I sold my Springfield EMP 9mm to get the kimber. I don't really regret it since the kimber is a great little gun but I wouldn't mind buying another EMP9. There are a few 1911's I still wouldn't mind getting.

Sig has many 1911 variants.

They are broken up whether they are a full-sized, commander, and CCO--except that Sig doesn't actually call them based on the conventional 1911 naming standards, but have the typical variances like stainless frame vs alloy and different kinds of checkering.

I think the internals on all their pistols are the same for the most part, which includes a firing pin safety. Most of the variance seems to come with cosmetic appearances and frame material (and why their 1911s are priced so close together).

When it comes to slide design, you can get the blocky Sig slide, or the "Traditional" that looks like a 1911 slide.

I think their best looking gun is the Traditional Compact Stainless, but I love CCOs.
