The 1911 doesn't have any place in duty anymore. It's a single action which means cocked and locked is the only way to have it usable. The trigger pull is the only advantage to the pistol. Others are lighter, more reliable, and have larger capacity.
That being said as much as I like them Glock won't get a military contract in this country. It's the Pentagon's fault as their requirements for a service pistol preclude most modern designs. I know they have to have a manual safety and IIRC they must also have a hammer with a decocker.
As far as FBI vs. Military on carry requirements it's comparing apples to oranges. Remember the FBI can carry whatever latest and greatest hollow point self-defense ammo that's out there. While the Army must only carry full metal jackets due to the Geneva Convention. Nine millimeter with good self defense ammo is awesome while FMJ's are not so much.

No argument there. If I had to carry FMJ, I'd want to carry something that starts with .4.
From the US military's perspective, handguns just don't matter that much. Many (most?) of the military personnel that carry them do so because they are a token of their rank, not because they will actually have to shoot at someone with their pistol.

Exactly. MP's being the main exception to that. If it's close enough for an M9 it's too close!

While the MPs carry them yes. They are the most notorious because well, they are cops. Most of them have shotguns and ARs in their patrol cars.
We use the M9 in the Infantry on a regular basis, machine gunners carry them. Medics carry them (see Geneva convention), and the staff guys.
There are other cases where some of us dual carry. Better to shoot your 9 under 50M than it is to use a rifle.
The Army will never get away from our current 9mm for a multitude of reasons. 1. The other NATO Countries chamber in 9MM, so if something does happen, we can access ammo if needed. 2. Like the other NATO countries, its the common denominator amongst most who carry as sidearm around here.
I personally dont mind my M9, its not bad. I am not dealing with coked out crazies on the street. Most of the people crying about wanting more stopping power cant shoot and they assume if they nail someone partially with a .45 they will be ok.

Carrying something is better than carrying nothing. I don't think it matters much what you are carrying so long as you have something available that can be concealed. The best setup would be a small pocket pistol (.380 auto) which you carry on your person and a larger capacity handgun in your truck. Use the pocket pistol to buy space/time to get back to your car and then if the threat is still there you escalate to the next level.
In most cases just producing a firearm will eliminate a threat. If you are given no option but to fire, it will still be able to do the job.
But I agree... if its FMJ I prefer the .45 or .40.
I saw a cool mod where a guy installed a kydex plastic holster under the steering wheel of his Tacoma (Left hand holster so you can draw with your right hand and have the pistol already oriented towards the drivers side window...) I like the idea and no one would ever see it down there.

I like how the selector is in the happy position.
My boy assembled it and thought it would be funny not to drop it into the detent.
Probably wouldn't work w the Geissele to well.

Congrats!! Good choice. Are you thinking about a complete lower or a stripped lower? I know g&r tactical and rainier arms sell complete bcm lowers.

so today while I was shopping, I stopped by the lgs and see if they have any lowers..
turns out.. they had one and it was a spike's complete lower..
best part < $200 otd...
I'm excited.. for less than $800 dollars, I have a complete m4.. Im stoked..
now though, I have to get some ammo for it.. already got the eotech and surefire..

the M2 has been 100% reliable with +2k round down the pipe so far including birdshot, 00 buck and slugs (low recoil/full power).
What problems are you having? I owned a 870 tactical for about 5 years that never had a hiccup and it had a decent amount of rounds through it. But my buddy's 870 has been having extraction issues from the beginning. He sent his back to Remington for them to fix it.
