$1k for just the gun.. i have about some $$ set aside for the glass.

I have been looking at the m2.. but haven't got a chance to try it on the fields yet..

darkie, does the m2 have a lot of accessories to go with it? cause I'm thinking about getting the pistol grip and an side saddle for it.

Yeah, the benelli m2 tactical is probably your best bet (if you want to go benelli with your budget). Already comes with a pistol grip, ghost ring sights and has a bunch of aftermarket accessories support. Mesa tactical makes a side saddle for it. Just make sure if you plan to get an extended mag tube, you also replace two other parts with US made parts to stay 922(r) compliant.

As for the bolt gun, I'll let others who know more about bolt guns to chime in. I'm mostly a semi-auto guy and just started doing research on a bolt gun myself. My original sub $1k plan was to pick up a rem 700 aac-sd (suppressor incoming), mid range b&c stock, weaver 20 moa base and weaver scope rings. unfortunately, other priorities have put that on hold.

yeah.. i think the benelli m2 is calling my name.. i would like the m4 but that's another $500 on top of the m2..

I'm too.. I'm new to the scene of bolt guns.. down in social, turner's has an 700 sps chamber in 30-06 for $480.. if they have it in .308, I be all over it.

around here at least, .30-06 ammo is MUCH easier to find than .308.

why would you choose the .308 over the .30-06?

30-06 is fudd hunter ammo, if you want match grade you pretty much have to roll your own.

308 is also 762, and there are lots of AR's chambered in it, and match grade ammo readily available.

If 30-06 AR's were readily available, there were lots of aftermarket magazines available, and match ammo was available--more people would shoot it.

That's why my bolt guns are chambered in 308--I also have two 308 AR's. I target shoot much more than taking down a deer or elk.

perhaps. I have a .308 also, but I cant get ammo for it. makes it pretty worthless to me.

I can get .30-06 from everywhere, any time.

Also, you should probably try shooting the LWRCi REPR if you have questions about AR accuracy performance.

if someone is looking for a bolt gun(presumably for long range shooting), why restrict themselves with a small cased .308? if .30-06 wasn't a viable cartridge, that rem 700 wouldn't be chambered in it...

Around where I live, 30-06 doesn't come around like .308 does. If ammo was easier to get, I wouldn't mind an 30-06.

Most 308 AR's run 2.5-4k.

They're not cheap.

My Rainier was 2600.

psa was running an .308 lower for $130 and the upper for $600.. I know is not going to be the cream of the crop but for less than $800 for an .308 ar.. is hard to beat..

my bcm with all the accessories.. it was around $2300..

just picked up this remington 30-06 model 783 for a great price. Now I am looking for a budget scope to go with it. I think i have narrowed it down to a redfield or vortex, but am leaning towards the vortex because of their warranty.



Also i just picked up some of this stuff. 250 rounds of 40 cal for $60. Figured i would try it out before i buy bulk.

post up what you go with I just had a 30-06 handed down to me after my dad passed away. I put a rail on it and am now looking for a budget scope as well. I've been leaning hard on Vortex as they have some good options under 500 bucks.

The vortex warranty covers everything except lost or stolen for life. So you really cant beat that. I most likely am going with the vortex unless i find a smoking deal on something on black friday.

What model 30-06 did you inherit.

a way older, model 721 lol but the rifling is still great zero rust, should be a good hunting rifle for sure. Extremely minor water damage on the wooden stock and the straps seen better days though.

I've felt the same about the Vortex's. I have one of their flip up magnifiers on my AR. I'm rather clueless when it comes to optics though. I guess I'm more so curious what model you go with for the range the the 30-06 is happy shooting in. I'm not really trying to shoot extreme grouping in a 2 inch circle at 600 yards or anything but would like to have a gun i can grab when a buddy invites me hunting on the rare occasion and actually be able to take a good shot.
